7200 vs 4200 rpm = Huge Difference!
I just upgraded my Hard drive in this laptop from the 20GB that it came with to 60GB. In the process, I picked a 7200 rpm drive to replace the 4200 rpm. Wow! Performance, start time, application start time, etc, is all much much shorter.

There are 10,000 RPM drives, too.
You can sometimes find published information on seek times and throughput for hard drivers, but buffer cache is significant, as well. Just like at the hot rod shop, speed costs money. There are some very nice RAID arrays built for video editing that are cpable of up to 400MB/sec throughput. Here's a former client of mine: http://medea.com/

I thought this was about gasoline vs. diesel engines.
Anyway, are there any 10,000 RPM laptop hard drives? I know there are a couple 7200 RPM drives out there...
