So Which One of You Married Up? You or Spouse?

Lets define "Marrying Up" as marrying a spouse that was/is/will provide you with a brighter ecomonic future, a more comfortable way of life, able to educate you in many facets of the world, and generally make you a better person for being with them.

So, which one of you Married Up or did your spouse?

I think for me it's a tie. I provide a better economic future but she definitely makes me a better person and provides a comfortable way of life. Maybe I married up slightly. Anyway I think we are both very happy. We've been married 33 years.

I initially provided the brighter economic dept., although she's closing the gap pretty fast. She's definitely out of my league in the other categories though

Cindy & I both had no $$$ when we married. All I had was a 911 & a struggling biz, she had a job as a bank teller. Hell, we had nowhere to go but up...

She started going to college because of me, it's still a tie - I drink much less now too.

I went back to college, drink less, quit smoking, she supported us through my first year of said college........I'd say I got lucky, not the other way around.

First marriage (1.5 years) spouse married up.

Second marriage (8+ years, and counting...three kids) I definitely married up.

This criteria, as a whole, in no way determines who married up or down. The only relevant portion of this question is whether your spouse "generally makes you a better person for being with them." For which I answer in the positive. My wife makes me a better person. Not that I am a great person anyway.
