McKinney rails against electronic voting

McKinney rails against electronic voting By KATE BRUMBACK, Associated Press Writer
1 hour, 48 minutes ago

Rep. Cynthia McKinney, in her first public appearance since losing her re-election bid last week, said Tuesday that the black community needs to oppose electronic voting machines, which she said are designed to steal elections.

McKinney also said the state of Georgia should not allow crossover voting among political parties in primary elections.

The fiery Democratic congresswoman who scuffled with a Capitol Hill police officer earlier this year and has accused the Bush administration of having advance knowledge of the Sept. 11 attacks said she considers herself a "black political paramedic," and the "black body politic is near comatose."

McKinney made the remarks during the National Dialogue and Revival for Social Justice in the Black Church. It was sponsored by the Rev. Al Sharpton's group, the National Action Network.

Last week, she lost her bid for a seventh term in Congress to challenger Hank Johnson, a former DeKalb County Commissioner. Johnson defeated McKinney 59 percent to 41 percent in the Democratic runoff.

After the runoff, McKinney blamed her defeat on the media and problems with electronic voting machines.

The crowd in Augusta, estimated at fewer than 200 people, gave McKinney a standing ovation when she was introduced and again when she finished speaking.

She refused to answer reporters' questions after her speech. A woman in McKinney's entourage got between the representative and a reporter. A male bodyguard said McKinney would not take questions.

Wait...I thought the party line was that electronic voting would fix all racial discrimination problems. I mean, in Florida in 2000 Bush "stole" the election by supressing paper votes.

Did anyone see the comments by her "bodyguards" after the election results were known?

Serious antisemitic remarks were made towards reporters, shameful really.

She might try railing against mirrors and/or hairdressers.

She's a bit of a loose cannon.

But there is a lawsuit in process to see if there's anything behind multiple allegations of questionable results with Diebold and other voting machines. It seems there's significant cause for concern.

In McKinney's case, complaints came up on voting day and were expressed to poll workers.

she never had a chance. She can say what she wants to, if the vote was guided by her and counted she would losw all over again. The people in the 4th district are sick of her "me me me " attitude!

I'm all in favor of electric voting. Of course, that assumes that the software (and hardware) will be Open and that *anyone* can look at it anytime, and there is an easy (and trackable) way to make sure the software that is running on the machine is the same version that is viewable by groups like blackbox voting, etc.

Strange that the company that makes the **** heavily opposes adding paper verification to the voting record. Not so strange that the company CEO is in bed with the GOP.

OK, back on topic: These crap-tastic Diebold machines are crazy-easy to hack BTW. This is a real issue that needs to be addressed:

Diebold voting machines can be beaten with a switch-flip

We now have electronic voting in my area. When you make your selection, it is printed on a roll of paper which is visible through a little window in the machine. I assume the paper vote could be used later to do a manual recount if the electronic portion is questioned. I forgot to look at the manufacturer name on the machine. You received a 5 minute training course on the new machine prior to voting and they had the old machines there as well if you were afraid of computers. In my area you need identification, have to be a citizen of this country, have to be pre-registered and alive to vote. It is so unfair.

Any one notice, when ever the left LOOSES they sue & protest, like in mexico. Just like the way most leftist laws get past, they aren't voted in by the people, but by activist judges after the people have spoked against these same laws!!

Lovely lady, really...

That MIGHT be an issue in a tight election, but this was a landslide/ass whippin' almost as serious as one she would have gotten if she had been caught in bed with the charred corpse of Mohammed Atta with Osama Bin Laden running the camcorder...lol

Yes. I agree.

However, things are different in some of those tight races you're talikin' about.

There's a big investigation of this year's primaries in Ohio, where once again, the Diebold machines are under scrutiny.
