Unbelievable GRIP!

This little guy has some seriously impressive grip!

He stayed on my car the whole day. The drive to work -> the drive to lunch & back to work -> and finally the drive home after work. He stayed in the general area of the driver side rear of the car. Anyone know what he is? Some kind of grasshopper? It appears he has wings, although they don't seem like they fit with the size of his body, juvenile maybe?

Excuse my dirty car

Who will be the first to calulate the Cd of this creature?

That is the first step to seeing how much force the pads or claws must exert to hold it on your car...

Depends...if pic was shot with a macro lens, it's an aphid. If pic was shot with a standard lens, it's an aphid exposed to nuclear radiation...

Immature katydid. Order Orthoptera. With early year options. NOT a long-nose.

Nymph-stage Katydid ... next time it sheds, the full-flight set of wings appear!

" It appears he has wings, although they don't seem like they fit with the size of his body, juvenile maybe?"

It's not the grip, it's the ground effects from the winglettes. I understand Frank Williams will be redesigning his whole F1 aero package around these spy photos.

somebody did a study on some creature showing that wing stubs, while not adequate for much of a glide path, gave some attitude control -- so there was a selection pressure for stubs, then glider wings, then for wings capable of powered flight...

Those winglets would have to be considered canards. The early 908s used very similar appendages at the front ...

Not surprising that the critter picked a red car ... since they can see colors, and red roses are among their favorite dishes! They can decimate a rose garden in one afternoon!

Is that what radiation is supposed to do? I need to spend more time in the radiation fields in the engine room! That explains why all the nuclear mechanics are such big guys (but fails to explain why the nuclear electronics technicians are small, geeky, and like Star Wars).

Perhaps Jack / BB2 could retain him as a consultant, he seems to have that downforce at speed dialed in just right.
