Todd's injuries thread:

pictures (you asked - warning: not pretty)

Probably not as bad a "page 14" but made me look away.

The links on page 14 of that thread are all to Ogrish.com, where you can look at gore for days if you wish. I have seen much worse on that site than what is in those links, which are mostly intact bodies. There is one close-up of a dead guy in the drivers seat of a car w/ a very obvious broken neck, but it's all stuff that anyone who has worked in the medical or emergency response business sees on a regular basis.

Maybe I'm just unlucky in this regard, but I have seen more than my share of up-close and personal gore in real life; a person who took a swan dive off a 20 story building, a bicyclist whose head got run over, (much worse than any of those pictures), and a guy w/ a gaping bullet hole in his chest, pumping out the last of his blood/life. It is always horrible and incredibly sad, but there is also no doubt that the person is no longer residing in the body. (Or what's left of it). There is also a strange fascination for me as to how *not indestructible* we are and the luck of staying intact and un-maimed for decades. That always hits me when I see a mangled corpse.

The poor SOBs in war zones see the worst gore imaginable all the fricking time, can you imagine the aftermath of a terrorist car bomb in Iraq??

Some of you guys are twisted... I can't even watch animals mate on TV. Watching a croc snatch a deer from the bank of a river on TV will make me not sleep for a week. Why the fascination with this stuff?

Having seen alot of people, including many buddies, die right in front of me, and given how some people drive their cars these days on public roads, I think EVERYONE should see these pictures! There is a reason for safety equipment and crews at a track. But when people start thinking they are invincible behind the wheel of their car, they need to think twice. My advice... If you have children of driving age, show them these pictures!

Nick

My problem with a lot of the gore pictures out there, especially the ones from rotten.com, is with the people who take them.

Some of the pictures don't come from people who just happen by the scene of an accident... instead, they are submitted by first responders. EMTs, firefighters, even police officers. There is something really sleazy about that.

How would you like it if a family member died in a gruesome accident, and the pictures were plastered over the web? Bad enough if a passer-by snapped the pictures, but how would you feel if it was a "first responder" who took a few pics to show his buds?

I'm not saying that was the case with these particular pictures, I didn't look at them.

When I took driver's ed back in 1982, we had to watch a video called "mechanized death". I think it was made by the Ohio highway patrol in the 60's. It showed the aftermath of several fatal accidents. Anyone know if they are still showing kids these videos?

Can anyone that's reads Chec, confirm if it was 2 women in the car?

It is the case with virtually ALL of the pictures on that site. In certain countries, (Czech), apparently the EMT/firefighters all carry digital cameras and camcorders and whip them out at fatal accidents and start filming. I would think that in the USA they would get fired for this, hence the dearth of pictures on that site from domestic accidents.

In several of the photos linked on that page 14, you can clearly see them taking these pictures, such as this one:

Back to one question posted here....

It was proposed by someone..forget who...maybe Lamborghini...that explosive charges should be used on the hinges for scissors-type or gullwing doors...a la "airbag" charges or such....

Did that ever make it into production ????

First off, the crash did not happen at a track. It happened on a public road. The first two or three pictures of the Lambo parked were taken at a track, but in the series of crash photos you can clearly see that it happened on a road.

In other words, not all of the pictures were taken at the same time, by the same person(s). The "good car" pics were probably stored on that BBS from a previous thread, just like our threads about "a day at the track".

Who that woman standing w/ the FF is, that's a mystery. She certainly does not look distraught; her expression is more like she is looking at a fender-bender at the mall. That photo is inexplicably included in the model shots of the dead passenger; does someone think that is her?? Looking at her own fatal accident?

More likely the wife of the driver who has just been caught 'dead-handed' w/ his mistress on a drive, and she is just amazed by the karma and symmetry of the whole situation. Who knows. Weird picture.
