Legacy

My father passed away suddenly last week. Thank you all for your kind words and warm thoughts.

My father was many things, a carrer military man, Korea and Nam. In his second carreer he was a Director of 2 hospitals. And a bit of a womanizer, married 5 times, twice to my mother. He finally figured out that marraige was not for him and actually managed to make it 18 years with his current girlfriend.

Above all else he had a passion for cars. He restored them his entire life. He was into MB's. Had 15 at one time till wife number 4 took him to the cleaners.

He managed to hang onto the 2 special ones. a 190 SL and a 220 SE sunroof coupe. The 220 has been in the family since 65 and the 190 since 67, my father was the second owner.

190's started production in 1955 and this car is the 7th one off the line and the 1st sold to the public. Numbers 1-6 were kept by the factory.

He left the 190 to me and the 220 to my brother. My brother is 6'4 so he can only drive the 190 with the top down.

I grew up in the jumpseat of this car and both my brother and I learned how to drive in it.

I hope I can care for it for 30 years and pass it onto my son.

Wow, very sorry for your loss. Sounds like your dad was a cool guy. Very nice 190! I have a hubcap from one in my room (turned it into a clock. lol).

Sorry to hear about your dad.

Very nice Mercedes, I'd don't know about the license plate though.

Sorry about your loss. Your dad must have been a really cool guy with good taste in cars. That 190 is beautiful with an awesome color combo.

Sorry for your loss. I'm sure you're father will smile everytime you or your brother drive the cars.

Sad to hear about your father, sounds like you have some good memories though.

The car you ended up with is very cool, for once it pays to be shorter than your brother. I'm shorter than my younger brother, our dad passed away over 20 years ago when he was only 49.

Is the other car something like this?

I inherited what is now my 356 from my dad in '94 - he bought it new in '65, one of last 356s made and the last one available in florida or georgia. I grew up in it, learned to drive in it, took family vacations in it, etc.

If you are like me, when you drive it, you will always have a passenger. Enjoy the car, but I think you will enjoy the memories even more, especially as time goes on.
