Wow. As bad as it is, glad you weren't hurt worse. Looks like they're the kind of injuries that will heal and be a memory. Be safe. There's too much to enjoy.

Dude.......that is SO nasty that i MUST respond with some innapropriate humor at your expense. If you shave it, you could hire your knee out as a close-up stunt double in porno movies. Seriously. i was thinking about selling my Triumph because the only peoplearound here who ride are either real live outlaw bikers, squids on crotch rockets (like the bikes...LOVE the little girlfriends, don't like the owners...lol) or 50yr old dentists and PI lawyers with $35,000 Harleys, hundreds in leather clothing and 48yr old wives with peroxide hair, more leather and big fake boobahs!!!! lol. Also the fact that some soccer mom decided to ignore a 4 way stop sign and pull out in front of me. Fortunately, I wasn't going very fast, but i did have to lay the bike down and it bent my gearshift and clutch lever. She just drove right off. Riding down here is not fun enough to be worth the danger and the cheesiness. Haven't had a run in with any wild canines.....yet. Glad you are ok and i hope your vagi-knee gets better soon. lol

nice craters!
you're right, the first pic does look pretty cool w/ the lighting and shadows...

think of all the fun you'll have with scabs. they'll be in the 'major league' category

thanks for sharing the gore

(and once again, speedy recovery)

it's a good decision to be done w/ the bike thing, just think about this: the 'only' damage you've incurred is in the areas without proper equipment. otherwise it would be just major soreness and bruises. had similar knee scrapes, slightly shallower but on both knees. realized that wearing jeans is about the same as having pants made of gift wrap tissue paper. even kevlar-reinforced jeans would've made a world of difference for me.

one other thing to riders. my crash had me skidding on my belly. i wore a leather belt w/ a decent-sized belt buckle. the buckle is nicely shaved by the pavement. i'm pretty sure that if it wasn't for the belt buckle, *that* area of the jeans would've shredded as easily as my knees... causing possible injury to some important bits...

>which just means the skin will slowly grow in from the sides.

Seriously ? If so, our bodies are effing amazing ! How would the skin know to grow from the sides and "unite" in the middle ? This really looks like it should be covered with a graft or stapled together somehow... Amazing ! +1 on sticking w/ cars ! NOt blaming the bike, it's almost never the biker's fault, but it's nice to have a car around you !!!

Ever thought of an Ariel Atom ? ;-)

I think I'm going to stay off 2 wheels for awhile, except for getting my Moots back on the road. Odds are at some point in the future (probably many years though, not months...maybe after my son turns 18) I'll get another bike. But I will *not* commute on it.

For the forseable future though, I'm stickin' with a cage. In order to make life a bit more bearable, I think I'm going to trade in the Subie 2.5RS wagon for a WRX wagon. The rationalization is that the WRX will be mroe fun to drive and is safer (side air bags, better "active" safety systems, etc). And I'll finish off the safety mods on the 911 and put that back into more active rotation. After all, the only downside is wearing the RA-1s, but I don't think that around town affects them very much.

Damn, you are ugly, j/k

That acticoat stuff is pretty nice, but $$$$$$$. You appear to have exposed bone on the knee injury, perhaps even exposed the interior of the joint. The rule of thumb is that if you can touch bone, it is infected. 7 days of oral Cephalexin is not adequate. A septic knee joint would really ruin your ability to enjoy that leg.

As I said before, I don't care for xeroform, too greasy and tends to macerate the wound edges. I like polymem myself for something oozing like that, it soaks up a lot of drainage and maintains a pretty nice wound environment. You want a moist dressing on the foot though, that hard, dark eschar will slow down your healing.

PM me your address and I will send you some wound care crap I have around the office you can try out. That knee will require a very long time to heal. Ask whoever is taking care of it about putting a wound vac on it.

I go to my regular doc tomorrow morning to have him take a look and get more meds. I have a med supply store close (where I got the xeroform) so I'll see if they have polymem and ask my doc about it.

What's the CW on keeping infection down? Long oral regimine or ?
