So, wine is the 'new' drink and cocktails are 'returning to roots', eh? :)

what a thread.

Frankly I can afford a much newer 911 but prefer my 74 Carrerra clone. The newest I woiuld own ismaybe an 87 turbo. Other than that why not just buy a Lexus or benz roadster?
Is it so wrong to feel superior? I love to see these yuppie types just getting screwed when they get their cars serviced at a shop where I pick up some parts now and then. They leave their cars their for weeks not even knowing that the shop does not have the hardware and software to diagnos the car so it sits forever as teh shop replaces module and after module till they get lucky. ANd they drive what they think is an in car.

Ummmm....so by being an air-cooled snob, you are some how better than a water cooled snob?

I happen to have a both a Boxster (got the spelling there stud?) and an 82 SC. They are both fine sports cars. I bought the air cooled car first, then picked up the boxster as a daily driver.

Scott, right down the road from me here in Seattle, also has both a Boxster and a air cooler (a long nose at that....).

I don't remember signing any forms when I bought the boxster that said:

"Warning, booze swilling dolts from Oregon may pre-judge you based on driving this vehicle. Make sure you wave like your in the Mickey F*cking Mouse club at all air-cooled vehicles to keep the peace. Porsche of North American cannot be held responsible if you fail to wave."

BTW, I could give a f*ck less what everyone else is drinking. I'm not some fashion queen (are you?). I drink both merlot and chardonnay. I'll still be drinking them 20 years from now. I like beer now and again. I like my vodka tonics to. No plans to check with the guys next to me about 'what he's having'. Crikey, your prolly one of them fellas that drinks Red Bull while he's gettin' his manicure.

EDIT: I feel bad about posting flames like that, but come one man, what did you expect was going to happen?

False generalizations can be made about any vehicle owner. I've heard a few about 911 owners!

I have a 911 2.7.

In my 914.SmileWavy

targa911S 08-27-2006 05:39 PM

I don't know what your problem is. Boxster owners stop me and offer oral sex.

Joe Bob 08-27-2006 05:42 PM

Might want to be a bit choosey depending on what part of town yer in....

targa911S 08-27-2006 05:51 PM

It's just nice to have offers.

vbaron 08-27-2006 06:19 PM

Fortunately/Unfortunately, I seen both types of Porsche people. Porsche lovers and Porsche owners. The guy in the 70's Targa who tipped his hat to me the other day, the couple in the brand new 911 Cab who waved on the way to a car show. The tailgating Boxster b*tch on the L.I.E. on the way home from the Hamptons (she'll get something entirely different once that lease runs out).

Point is you gotta deal with it and not let it bother you. The trendy folk will do/buy/say anything to be "in". We know better, don't we?

Yup.....my old 914 had the dreaded hot start issue....backin and hope for a slope was always in the back of my mind....

Victor 08-27-2006 07:09 PM

Why does that MG have what appears to be a 3rd headlight stuck to the font? Is that seperately wired to a Bosh system as some sort of backup/failover to the Lucas units? ;)

Tobra 08-27-2006 07:28 PM

Pretty cool wheels on the MG there

I just don't think the newer Porsches have the same build quality as some of the earlier cars, perhaps the flood of East Germans when the wall fell, who knows. Of course that is anectdotal, about a half dozen of each. The later cars just don't seem as well put together(This from a guy with a 914  )

Victor 08-27-2006 07:36 PM

I thought Boxtars where built in the same plant as SAAB Cabriolet's and not in the usual Porsche factory(s)?

Built both in Stuttgart and Uusikaupunki, Finland. And, not all Saabs are built there either, just the convertbles, as you say.

Man, there are sure some deviation on the spelling of the name. Now we have "Boxtars."

Maybe this little write up on the 986 FAQ website will help people understand WHY it's spelled the way it is:
"The name "Boxster" comes from a combination of the words "boxer" and "roadster". The engine in the Boxster is a flat-six boxer engine.

The terms Spyder and Roadster have rather nebulous definitions. The Boxster takes its styling cues from the Porsche 550 Spyder, so maybe a good question is "What is a Spyder?" The name "Spyder" was given to the Porsche 550 by Max Hoffman, an early importer of Porsches to the U.S. Hoffman felt that it would improve sales in America if the car had a name instead of just a number."

So, if you're gonna misspell it, call it a "Boxsder." :D
