I don't think Porsche will build the hatchback.
So...when's the Panamera gonna be in NASCAR?

There are some SUV spy shots, looks like 996/Boxster headlights on the remodeling. Kind of like going backwards if you as me. http://img86.imageshack.us/my.php?image=6060724001mini4lmn6.jpg

I need the praticality of a hatchback (thing Porsche parts hauler). All wheel drive would be great (so the wife can drive it in the rain and snow). I would be modestly upscale (heated seats, auto climate control). And fun to drive? How can you lose? Oh wait. It is built on VW underpinnings? I'll be on a first-name basis with the service manager at the dealership. Ugh.

Rumors. Right. Porsche usually pre-announces what it's creating -- like the 4-door sport sedan.
There have already been rumors (with supposed spy shots) of a compact Porsche SUV... And what happened to last year's rumors of a Porsche pickup truck?

And then there is the mini van. An article in the WSJ mentioned one earlier this year.
I guess anyone can start a rumor. Porsche has typically been pretty up front about their future plans. Right now, that seems to mean the four door sedan.

How could it possibly cost more to put the engine in the rear where it belongs?
This is what Porsche should be building. ![]() Call it a baby Boxster. ![]()

Why pay more for a VW Golf just because of the Porsche badge..... That is what you would be doing if you bought one.

I think Porsche should stay an elite sports car company, and preserve its long-held reputation. Expanding and diversifying their market could endanger that.
One thing they have to keep an eye on is the weak dollar. That has shot the price of the 911 up--as it did in the early 90s. At that time, Porsche almost failed because of weak American sales. That means they have to strengthen their entry cars--Boxster and Cayman. Boxster needs a coupe or hatchback in the same price class. The new basic Cayman probably fills that need. I hear they are coming out with a new 4-door sports sedan. And they have an SUV. I don't know if that kind of diversification will benefit them in the long run. SUVs may have seen their best days. One thing I think they should do is get the name PORSCHE back on their cars.

Don't forget the 2009/10 supercar that Paul Frere said may be replacing the CGT. The Oct issue of Road & Track has a couple of pictures. To me it looks like the offspring of the CGT and GT1

the VW IROC concept (scIROCco)
I'm really close to pulling the trigger on a GTi w/DSG...the next R32 (AWD 250hp version) will be out in the spring, but I want the 4-door hatch for practical purposes... ![]() ![]() |
