VP and SecDef; really bad actors
I hope someone else here saw the same news clips I did, of Dick and Rummy making their commemorative speeches at the Pentagon today. If so, please confirm and verify what I saw; two very hammy performances, obviously coached by the same person or persons. Both men's voice quaked and cracked and I think I saw Cheney's lip tremble, but it might have just been his normal lip-curling sneer, while speaking of those lost to attacks that day. For such deep emotion, their recovery was instant and miraculous when it came time to drive home the talking point du jour, which was, of course, some variant of "Stay the course".
No one could have appreciated this more than Jon Lovitz, who, I suspect, was the coach for this two-act melodrama. It was rank. What? I dare to question the sincerity of these men? Why, yes. Yes I do. Sincerely Ed |

So your point is that all politicians are FOS, the only difference is in what they lie about?

That's funny, because I didn't think that Clinton was a convincing liar at all. When he said that he didn't boink the fat intern, I was yellin' back at the TV,
"Yes you did, you dirty hillbilly! Just like the scene in 'Deliverance' I'll bet!" But I loved the guy. What a politician. Failure was not in his playbook, and still isn't. He mopped the floor w/ Republicans and they grinned and stared at their feet when he was in the room. Elvis as POTUS.

You know how you see those old-time cartoons of guys like Boss Tweed, big fat cigars in their mouths, pockets stuffed with dirty cash, stepping on some orphan's neck?
100 years from now, those cartoons will be Dick Cheney.

Hah, when I saw the title line, I thought VP and SecDef were two rappers that were trying their hand in movies... shows how up I am on my pop culture...

"Cheney is a golden god"
I'll have to think about that, but not for very long.

I disagree. If you were just trying to flush out my thoughts, you could have either asked, "So, do you think Clinton was a good actor, or a bad actor?", or fill your head with Risperdal. Flush, flesh, tomatoe, tomahtoe, Goldberg, Iceberg, they're all the same. What you attempted to do was to play a round of that well-worn game I affectionately call "But what about the blow-job?" No, thank you. I am deeply offended by those appointed or elected to high office and use their position, not to fulfill their commitments or pledges, but to simply run their own game. Government on all levels is full of these, of both major political parties. They use their office as bully pulpit, get invited to speak at occasions such as those taking place on 9-11-06 (that's 60-11-9 to you) to add some esteem and sense of "...the people, by the people, and for the people," then use the occasion to gain a few yards. I am almost certain that, yesterday, there were some democrats doing the same thing, but I didn't see any on the news. I saw Cheney and Rumsfeld, the people in charge. Did you see any democrats on the news doing the type of thing, poorly, that I saw Dick and Rummy doing yesterday? Finally, I regret using the term "actors" in the thread title so loosely. Acting is a fine art, and a good actor can draw you in so easily you are not even aware you are going into a fantasy world. He77, you want to go! But ever since Reagan, some pols think anyone can pull it off. Anyone can't. Acting is not simply telling a lie, playing a game. Good actors find a way to crawl into the skin of their characters. It's a full time job, and you shouldn't even try it if your attention is focused on premptive invasions, but not occupations. Ed |
