MNF - weird, but I think I like it...
I don't know if it's a good thing or bad thing having two pro football games play on a Monday Night. Sort of weird, but then again, too much of a good thing can be a good thing.

It took much internal strength to not stay up for the Chargers/Raiders game.

Is this going to be every Monday night? I like it also, as long as the better game is the early one. Man, the Raiders look pathetic and Washington keeps failing after spending more and more money. Something never change.

As a long suffering Right coaster who could never stay up to see the end w/ the olde format, a 7PM start is a real treat. The second game is only going to be watchable if it's real interesting

Did anybody notice not a lot of replays or was it just me? We have some huge calls, vikes convert a 3rd and 9 and we get an illegal formation call. No replay or explanation from thiesman. Washington reciever forced out then back in to complete a long play? No replay. I dont like it when they over do the replays but on big calls and important plays...come on.
What about the left handed throw from Brad Johnson? Kinda Farve like huh. Not calling him a great QB, but he shure looks comfortable out on the field to do that stuff. Its nice having a guy like that at the controls.

There's a very good reason for two MNF games:
When the first game would start at its normal time, a lot of west coasters were just getting out of work, getting dinner, etc. Network loses a big market share. Play a late game and the east coasters go to bed. Lose a big market share. This, for ESPN, is the best of both worlds.

didn't like the double-header, although if the second game was a more quality match-up, it may have been better.
Glad washington lost...cant stand snyder And the "new" MNF booth team...Kornheiiserer and Thiesmann....easily the worst team EVER on MNF. AND unless reporting on an injury, for the love of Christmas...get rid of the sideline reporting!!!

I can actually predict his stupid comments even before he says them. This is a reprint from SI's voting for worst announcers. He finished last with the other ESPN crew. I guess ESPN doesn't care about what others think or Thiesmanns got something on them: ZERO Mike Patrick, Joe Theismann and Paul Maguire, ESPN -- How is it earthly possible to drop from half a star to none? Easy. They used to provide a teeny weeny bit of information. Now they provide none. And they contradict themselves, often from one series to the next. I don't think they're really fully aware of what they're saying. Theismann in the early KC-Denver game: "The single most classic rivalry in TV." Hmmm. Does Chicago still play Green Bay? Maguire on Cleveland-Baltimore, Week 9: "Jamal Lewis averages six yards a carry. All you have to do is keep giving it to him, and you'll keep getting in second-and-four situations." My God! Brian Billick must be told immediately! Theismann, Bills-Patriots, Week 10, after Brady throws a pick: "You've got to figure the receiver went where he shouldn't." Absolutely. Great QBs never throw interceptions on their own. And through all this, the slow, half goofy drone of Patrick, with every word emphasized, no matter how meaningless. "And tonight! We have sixty-three! Thousand! Fans!" (Whew). Oh, we get some inside stuff all right. Theismann on his exclusive interview with Pittsburgh defensive coach Dick LeBeau during the Steelers-Jaguars telecast: "I saw Dick LeBeau before the game, and I told him, 'Nice to have you back,' and do you know what he told me?" No, what? "Nice to be back." And of course, there's Suzy Kolber and her sideline essays that run right through the live action, and finally, some serious pregame handicapping -- again from Theismann. This was before the contest in which Oakland upset the Broncos: "They can just forget about throwing the ball to Jerry Porter when Champ Bailey's on him. There's no place to get the ball in." That was the game in which Porter caught touchdowns off Bailey for 42 and 14 yards, plus another 52-yarder off him. But so what? Who remembers what is said? Who cares? Me, your faithful narrator, your TV guide. |

I guess ESPN doesn't care about what others think or Thiesmanns got something on them: when I initially read the news that Madden/Michaels were being replaced, I was happy---I can't stand Madden, then my joy turned to sadness when I read that the only person whom I dislike more than Madden in the booth had been signed, Thiesman. I think Michaels and Fouts would make a great team. Get rid of tony and joe, PLEASE.......they both suck. ANd..put Lisa back on the sidelines...yowza...

Do you think anyone tells Theisman: "Break a leg, Joe!" before his broadcasts?
Howard Cosell was the best. Remember his racial epithet one Monday night a long time ago? A brother catches a long bomb, and dashes for the end zone, and Cosell drones, "Look at that little monkey run."
