i can't speak for everyone else, but I can speak for myself on this issue: It's because I respect the right of others to believe as the wish, I don't try to force my beliefs on them or ridicule their beliefs, and I expect the same in return.

Not much to ask from the vast majority of people. Most dont' ridicule others' religions, just like most people aren't rude.

But there always will be those that are rude, and those that ridicule. So what? Who cares if some nutyy or rude dude somewhere thinks your religion or beliefs are ridiculous, and/or draws some silly cartoon? Big deal.
