Are you an eBay sniper?

I have to confess. When there's no Buy It Now option and I have to have it, I snipe. My name's RL and I'm an eBay sniper.

Just sniped a sweet 1911 barrel and used a stopwatch for it.

My wife thinks I'm nuts when I sit here with my chronometer waiting out an auction, but I get some good stuff.

Guilty, but my story is "it's part of the game and within the rules", and I'm sticking to it.

I occaisionally employ a service if I'm not going to be home at the critical moment.

I am one too. I have 2 windows open, with one constantly refreshing. I do it the old-fashion manual way - none of these automatic sniping things...

Good to know there actually is honor among thieves. I think software takes the fun out of sniping.

Definitely part of the game. If someone wants something, they should throw their max bid, what they think it's worth to them, right from the get go. If they get beaten in the bidding process, the choice is to let it go, or try again.

I just happen to throw mine a little later than others, and sure, I get beaten too. Sometimes by the person that logged their max bid early on, and sometimes by an automated service.

Then I am honorable as well for I employ the old fashioned technique myself. I figure if I'm not near a computer when the auction is at its close then I probably don't need it that bad.

What really irks me is when an auction has the audacity to go over my dollar limit BEFORE I even place a bid.

The nerve.

Wow, I thought I was the only eBay loser. You guys put me to shame. I snipe. It's the only way to bid.

Anyone been on eBay longer than me? I started Nov 98.

I don't buy much from eBay, but when I do, I snipe the old fashioned way. IMO, it's SOP. Any other way and you are almost certainly going to get screwed.

The only people who don't snipe are chumps and shills. I use an sniping site.

I use a snipe site and snipes are the only bids I bother to ever place.

The first 6 days, 23 hours and 58 minutes are just advertising time. The last two minutes are the only time any actual meaningful bidding ever gets done anyway.
