				How bout them Tigers

Three years ago lost 119 games, now they are 4 wins from going to the World Series. Even better they kicked the crap out of the Yankees!!!!.

Being a Detroit boy at my roots, I find this all perplexing. Tigers.......winning......games.......no,no...it just doesn't add up!!! SOBs couldn't have won some games when I was living on Trumbull Ave, noooooooooooo.

Tigers will win in 5 or 6. The pitching staff is simply too strong, bats are getting timely hits and fielding is solid. Chemistry is great and they appear at this point to be a "team of destiny". | ||

Detroit should have spent more $$$. Their payroll is only 15 million more than the A's. It won't be enough. Having said that, Kenny Rogers has just abused the A's in the past. Zito/Rogers will be a great game. I'm realistic about the A's limitations. That's why I picked them in 5.

Tigers in 6... Cards vs. Mets will be the series to watch... very hard to predict. I would say that the Mets are the easy favorites, but the Cards have suddenly been playing like it's 2004 again...

Jim Leyland is an AWESOME manager. I thought so when he was with the Pirates in the early '90s. I was pretty upset when he left but he saw that they weren't going to spend any money on players and it made sense for him to go. I'm pretty happy for him to be having such success.

Ok, I understand the happiness that Tigers fans feel right now but what I don;t get is getting all crazy about it. Maybe because I am not a huge non-car sports fan. I don't care for NASCAR, either. You see people being interviewed about "their" sports teams doing something great and they make it sound like "they" had something to do with it. WTH? They were sitting on their a$$ contributing abso*******lutely nothing. If the Tigers win, great for them. If they lose, oh well. My life sure as heck isn't going to change based on the outcome. Even with F1. I enjoy the races and the one coming will surely be an excellent contest. If Mikey wins, cool. If Fernando wins, cool.

Wayne, I personally am not a big baseball fan, but in this part of the country, there are alot of folks who have followed the Tigers all their lives. My grandfather has watched and listened to them play since he was a young man. At every summer family event that I can remember back to (about 35 yrs), grandpa ALWAYS had the Tigers game on in the background on the radio. He had a stroke a few years back and he is in pretty bad shape now. A few weeks back my younger cousins from Florida decided we needed to take him to a game. I am so happy we did (even though the logistics of it made it somewhat difficult). All evening he kept mumbling about how his distant cousin's kid is married to one of Leyland's kids. This night was the highlight of his year and as stupid as it sounds, he will die a happy man knowing that his Tigers were back in the world series again just like the old days. For that reason alone, I say GO TIGERS!

Great story, Tim. Your G-Pa will never forget that day. Maybe I'm just getting old and crotchety. My Dad used to listen and watch the Tigers back in the 70's when I was growing up.

Yep, connection with the past, our father's, and our father's father's is part of it. I mean the national anthem is just a song, why tear up over it and bother to stand?
