No, you make them. Yes, in fact, I'd love to hear someone make a "common sense" justification for government.

Folks have been waiting on that answer for millenia.

Is that the Porsche you're talkin' about? I got room in the back yard if you ever want to junk it! I can fix the sunroof and windows!

Not the same. Fact is, I pay Pat's retirement, so do you.
But it is paid in exchange for service, right? My government made a contract with Pat on my behalf. Pat held up his side and served me (and you) for the required time and now we are paying him as per the conditions of the contract. I'm actually pretty okay with that.

I laugh whenever I see Lendaddy's UserID. He may well be paying Pat's retirement - but only because Pat helped to keep him and his children safe while Pat was serving. Am I the only one who isn't troubled by Pats' retirement benefits? Am I missing or misunderstanding something? Pat, you served in the military and retired in good standing, right? I'm really baffled why people are bothered by this. A contract is a contract regardless of who the parties are.

In Patland, we don't fix what's broke, we throw it away!

The criminal justice system didn't get the Duke Lacrosse prosecution just right? Ditch the system! The people will investigate crimes, track down criminals, determine guilt or innocence, and punish the guilty.

How, exactly will we do that with no government? What am I Wickpiedia? Figure it out yourself!

Actually, you don't. The fed takes money from those that work for them, keep it for the duration of their employment, be that civilian or military, without paying a penny of interest, and then pay them a certain portion of their full time pre-retirement income until they die. Then the money stops, there is no method to will the remaining funds to relatives or spouses. There are several types of federal retirements, both civilian and military, and you appear to know nothing of them. I'd recommend you get a little knowledge before you mention this subject further.

Quote:
As Pat states in his sig, they take that money forcefully from me. Then they give it to him. He's cool with that. As long as they don't take HIS money and give it me. That's what pisses him off
Since I've never made such a statement, you have no knowledge of it.

Pat, if you think there is some pool of money funding your retirement checks, you are in la la land.

I and Janus and lendaddy pay your retirement, in my case every two weeks like clockwork.

Wanna see my pay stub?

You're not feeding me and never have. As I pointed out, you have little to no knowledge of any federal retirement.

I've told you the truth, you don't want to hear it, and that's alright. You're government will handle it for you, don't worry. Watch more TV.

Really no need to form your own government. Governments we have enough of.

Just run for office in the govenment that exists now. Once you and your party are in charge - local, state, federal, school boards and etc - you can effect the changes you want.

The trick is getting elected.

Running for election vindicates the system, I won't do that.

No offense to fastscat - what he is actually proposing isn't that far off base in that he wants less and less fed involvment and more local accountability. The problem is that the next thing is isolationism. Here in Texas, Tex folk truely believe that this state is the best. If given the chance Texas would really consder being its own nation. Try to find another stae with as much state pride as Texas? You would be hard pressed. The problem is, we don't live in a vacuum. The country needs all its states to be great. No other country is as great as we are. I defy anyone to id one that comes even close.

I am afraid you do not understand the nature of the people who populate these 50 states.. It could be improved but it is a system that by and large is supported by the citizenry..

Marx's old theorum of the withering away of the state just aint gonna happen.

Nothing would be lost to Texas if it were an independent country. It's statists and socialists that claim otherwise.

I'm amazed, in some sense, that you're not able to see where this scenario would end. Do you really think that this question was only answered in the 20th century?

How racist of you.

The truth is that the majority of surnames at the Alamo were Spanish, and if those families had a say, the state of Texas would indeed become an independent country.

Those Mexicans who've imported themselves into Texas have no legitimate voice at all.
