Howz Your Colon?

Had it checked? I think I am past due. Is all the cleansing hype for real?

Stinky.

And my ass has a "one way" sign on it. That goes for tubes, enema bags, sex toys, fingers, penises and anything else imaginable.

I really wonder what prompts people to wonder this kind of stuff. . . It's barely 9:30 here and someone's asking me "how's your hole" already. . . Sheesh.

A medical procedure to visually review your colon is recommended for those over 50. Colon cancer is a huge killer, and we Americans are so squeemish about these sorts of issues that it does not get checked.

However, on the topic of cleaning, flushing, etc. - serious quackery. Read more here (and good website in general).

HAd a colonosopy at the ripe age of 35. New Dr. misdiagnosed, and in tot he hosp. I went. No big deal. All was well. Never even nknew they did the procedure. Lots of good drugs - Vallium before and after, something to put you in a twilight sleep during.

They even gave me an 8x10 color glossy of my insides, along with a clean bill of health. Funny thinkg was, I stuck inside the issue of Car and Driver I brought with me. Now I exchange all my Car and Driver mags with my buddy who gives me his Road and Tracks. Several weeks later, he calls me laughing and crying so hard he almost wrecks his car. Guess he saw the photo...

Doc says I have the colon of a 20-year-old.

Versed and Demarol almost made up for the 18 hours of torture leading up to the 'scope.

I did a full body scan a few years back and they said all looks ok but that there could be some problems with pockets there. Started taking metamucil every few days and that should take care of it but men have a history of prostrate and colon cancer.

Jeff, I know one guy with a bag out the side of his body. Its where he takes a crap. He has it because he did not want to have the borescope check his intestines out. Unless you want to join him we all need to have this checked as we get older. Personally it is about the least exciting thing I can think of having done but its better than cancer.

Was that a 'tongue-in-cheek' remark?

Ewwwwwww.

I s'pose getting a thumb up my butt would be a tad less awful than cancer or anything so I guess I'll do it if the doc thinks I should.

Gawd. Talk about unpleasant. I'm not looking forward to getting old at all. 35 now, so I guess it's time to start worrying about such things though. Yuk.

You're in for a surprise if you think it'll only be a thumb.

Here, try this sigmoidoscope on for size.....

It wasn't so bad, until later I realized the doctor had both hands on my shoulders...

Don't do the sigmoid, get the whole shootin' match.

Make sure they put you under and you won't remember a damn thing about the procedure. Anything else is just barbaric.

However the prep is...unpleasant. I spent 18 hours on the can prior to mine. Not fun. My legs went numb after the first hour. A laptop (plugged in) and a stack of DVDs helps.

I had one at 49 and the good Doc found two polyps that were "bad". Said they probably would have killed me in another 5 years if let alone. Had another colonscopy this year and he says I'm good for another 5 years before a recheck.

who cares about the embarassment factor, these things do need checked, especially when you get to your forties.
