10 new Porsches by 2010

Two thoughts: where is the '08 Cayenne that is supposed to be on its way (not that I care) and what's up with the addition of a small SUV? Three doors? Sounds like a tarted up VW R32.

If you were thinking that Porsche is nothing more than the 911 company, well then you have to know that sources inside Porsche have confirmed that Porsche is set to launch 10 new models by the end of 2010. Some of them are varianrs of the existing 997-series 911, but the others "will take the company into new and possibly controversial market niches."

Porsche’s new models:

911 Turbo Cabriolet: the coupe 911 Turbo is powered by a 3.6 liter flat-six engine with an output of 473 hp and 457 lbs-ft of torque. The convertible version will probably take a few tenths longer to get to 60, but should exceed the 996 Turbo Cabrio’s 191-mph top speed, so it can compete with models like Bentley Continental GTC.

911 Targa: the 997 Targa will have a large glass panel that retains the car’s roof rails between the pillars for better structural rigidity .

911 GT3 RS: it will be a limited-edition of the 2007 GT3 RSR. It will be powered by a 3.8 liter flat-six engine.

911 GT2: the GT2 will have an output of 525 hp, and with no sunroof and other weight savings it will probably have the best 0-60-0 mph time ever.

Panamera: it is powered by a 4.5 liter V8 engine with an output of 340 hp. It will debut in 2009 as a 2010 model.

Cayman RS: will no offer more power because Porsche wants to ensure the 911 remains the company’s icon car.

Next-generation 911: The 998 version of the 911 will be powered by a flat-six engine, with a capacity of no more than 4.0 liters. The car will feature extensive use of aluminum and fast-shifting DSG transmissions to save weight and boost performance.

Small SUV: it will be placed below the Cayenne; will be a radical, sporty three-door vehicle with strong 911 design cues.

New 928: Porsche has plans to build a short-wheelbase, two-door model to compete with cars like Bentley Continental GT and Ferrari 612 Scaglietti.

New Carrera GT: the production of the Carrera GT might have finished but Porsche is planing a new successor for the mid-engine V-10-powered roadster but is unlikely to bedut before the ned of 2010.

Throw in a small pic up truck and the package is complete..

My personal favorite would be a REAL Cayman RS, coming in at no more than 1200 kg with everything not essential deleted. And in colors from the sixties and seventies.

Small "SUV" would likely be a Scirocco variant:

I hate to say it, but I'd like a small, awd, sport/luxury hatchback. Preferably one with more reliable window regulators than a VW, though!

Yeah, what the hell is a window regulator and why do VW windows get stuck down right before it rains?

My brother got rid of his GTI because of this, and it was built in Germany, not Mexico.

No Cayman glass top (Targa) in that list.

No entry level Porsche of original Porsche origin either.

Dark days.

Yeah; whatever happened to the rumoured "new 914"? I would love to see a bare-bones, lightweight, mid-engine in the Elise/Exige class, but at WRX pricing. I would buy one tomorrow.

I thought the 998 was supposed to get a V8.

The M3 will have a V8 by next year. 2008.

Whatever happened to that entry-level 2-seater roadster they were talking about? It was supposed to be kinda' like a "new 914"? I absolutely LOVED the concept and would buy one in an instant if it ever reaches production. . .

Even if they built a new 914, and I'm not holding my breath, it would probably be filled with electronic babysitters.
