Please help me out here......
I understand that a percentage of loosers, malcontents, and social misfits will loose a dank dive nightclub, but what the heck does that have to do with the rest of us real people?
Just exactly how is that place worthy of saving?
I see no value of it at all.

what's the problem really , let's face it , anything related to punk , not on the verge of collapse is , truth be told, not punk enough.. so if one of those punk things does collapse, well, it's just the natural way of things...

punks will find a new punk place to punk out, it's the punk way of things

really.

Punk is dead... I only hope rap will follow..

Seriously, who is doing punk anymore? Three chord songs with guitars out of tune? Everyone want to show that they are a virtuoso... no more simple music.

What a bummer

I remember seeing Government Issue play there back in the mid 80's

The history of the place is just amazing. The sheer dumpiness of it is what gave it character.

When I had the pleasure of going there to do some photography and sound work a few years ago for a friend's band, it was like stepping into an ancient cathedral of music history. EVERYONE has played there. Not just punk bands (although that's what it's most known for). It's a shame to hear of its demise - it truly was a special place for those that are into the history of music.

I should've suspected when I saw knock-off "CBGB" t-shirts in Nordstrom that the end was near. . . I'm proud to say I actually bought mine at the actual place, but whatever. . .

We hardly knew ye.

I just got a call from the G/F. She is sitting at a bar directly across the street from CBGB's, with a ticket to tonight's show. (Yes, she actually flew out from California just so she could see it before it closed down.)

She asked if I wanted to fly out there with her this weekend, but I declined. First, I don't have an extra $1G to spend on a weekend in NYC hanging out at a dive bar, and second, I always told myself that the only way I was going to set foot in CBGB's was if I was actually playing there.

That being said, CBGB's has an amazing history, and many great bands got their start there.

The world sure could use another Starbucks.
