Why are all drummers crazy?

Every person I've met who was the drummer in a band was nuts to one degree or another.

What is up with that? Do you have to be crazy to drum or does it drive you there?

drummers are a different breed of kat. first they must be able to follow goofy bass players, lead players and then through all of that be able to sing. sooooooooo the next time you see a drummer sing, you will know. i cant sing(i try to some degree) i am NUTS, and enjoy it. i have been known to drink excessive amounts of beer and play drums for hours and have a PILE of destroyed wooden sticks. bent fubarred aluminum sticks, broken heads etc.

the experience and emotional release would be described as being the same as track days. after a day or weekend of WFO, pinning the throttle you are spent emotionally and mentally. lots of endorphins released.

since i live in a rural area i have a very large audience of bunny rabbits quail dove that watch and listen while drinking at their local watering hole.

since this is my last semester and i HAVE TO PASS THIS CLASS, i have given my drum set to my buddy who has a recording studio, so he can make his 5th cd. i have been invited over to do some licks but havent found the time to do so. all im doing is 1 3min 30sec gig on one song. its the same beat thruout song with a couple of cymbal hits. but hey doing it around other friends is a hell of alot different than doing it up on stage. to go on stage i would freak! have been doing it off and on since grade school.

you should be glad that drumsets are available to the masses. my drumset has kept me from murdering quite a few people!

up until this semester i had been playing everyday for over 2 1/2 years straight. it is a mood thang! happy or sad you have to feel the music and translate that to the skins and cymbals. the number of songs i could play grew dramatically. after this hiatus until december when i finish school it will be interesting to see how much i retained or forgot.

dont let anyone fool you that it is not physical. i have been covered in sweat with a/c blowing full blast. it is a great workout, and your hand eye contact goes thru the roof. it takes a hell of alot of practice and time. when you play music, you listen to music differently than most people. there are songs where i just shake my head in wonder at how they did it. any band that has TWO DRUMMERS going at it , is one to watch!

Aww....what the hell....
• How do you tell if the stage is level?
The drummer is drooling from both sides of his mouth.

• How can you tell a drummer's at the door?
The knocking speeds up.

• What's the last thing a drummer says in a band?
"Hey guys, why don't we try one of my songs?

• What do you call a drummer that breaks up with his girlfriend?
Homeless.

• How can you tell when a drummer's at the door?
He doesn't know when to come in

• What's the best way to confuse a drummer?
Put a sheet of music in front of him.

• What's the first thing a drummer says when he moves to LA?
"Would you like fries with that sir?"

Most of them I've known also tap out a beat constantly, on anything handy, when any music is playing.

Most are also kings of practical jokes. Our drummer used to have a habit of waiting until everything was dead quiet during setup. Once the P.A. was setup, and everyone was doing their thing, he would kick the bass drum, and scare the hell out of all of us. We always fell for it.

What do you call a guy that hangs out with a bunch of musicians?

A Drummer!

And to put myself in there, What do you call a bass player in a suit?

Defendant!

But drummers have a way of getting you pumped before a gig.

• If a hundred dollar bill was laying in the center of a room, and Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, a drummer with good time, and a drummer with bad time were standing in the corners, who would get to it first?

The drummer with bad time of course. The other three don't exist.

too funny! best investment i have ever made. my buddies drummer has the mapex studio kit and i have the next level down. got a mint in z cymbals. its fun its a work out and best of all you can amaze your tone deaf top 40's friends that you actually do have some hidden talents.

like i mentioned after getting into again, listening to music has really changed. trying to pick out real and memorex beats now a days is hard.

i used to be able to read music. but that like german if not used alot goes by wayside. some songs have literally taken me weeks if not months to master. when you finally do master them, its the ORGAZM that just keeps on giving!

my buddy was schooled at the julliard(sp) school in paris. he is a WIZARD at all instruments, lyrics and writing music. it is really cool to watch him play. and he is good, unlike me who would have stage fright. have had a couple of incidents when playing with headphones on in middle of fast paced song, when friends have snuck into house and startled me. almost drove a pair of aluminum sticks through their skull, i was so freaked!

word to the wise...........dont EVER SNEAK UP ON A DRUMMER FROM BEHIND!

cant even imagine playing country music in texas where they throw beer bottles at you!

mine take up living room also. stare out two windows at mtns birdies and bunnies. have had buddies go out on road and listen and due to design of house setback from road, the music(noise) doesnt really bother anyone. at least no one has called the cops yet at 2am(my finest hour) LOL!

playing drums in confined space i imagine could get you in some hot water!

'79 is vintage? *sigh*...I'm getting old. One of my old drummers has a '65 Slingerland kit. I've always been a Gretsch fan myself, and love small kick drums.

I've played with both sane and crazy drummers. The one thing I noticed is that they *always* had women hitting on them, with the only variable being that the good looking ones had hotties hanging around them, the ugly ones had more plump women. But it never failed at a gig.

I think the drumming brings out a basic animilistic side of the human species. Probably has some kind of hypnotic effect like the ceremonial drumming used in many cultures and religions.

Either that or it's just something that attracts that type of personality, like NASCAR.

I think it may have something to do with the ability to do four things independently at a time (five if the drummer sings). Seriously, I had a heck of a time learning to finger pick i.e. have my right and left hand doing separate things... can't imagine adding both feed to the mixture. Interesting random though, I can play guitar and sing but I can't play bass and sing.

I posted this in another Drum related thread (killed the thread actually.....).

{My eldest boy is a Drummer first and foremost.
However, he also plays Guitar and Keyboards.
So depending on who asks:
* "Dude, Like, I'm a Drummer".

* "Percussion in the Concert band".

* "I play the guitar a bit". (Girls seem to like the modesty!).

* "I am a Pianist, actually I have my grade 1 Royal Conservatory of Music".

This last statement seems to impresses the Parents, and said in his best Brit accent fools them completely into trusting their Daughters into his care.
Thank God I only have Sons!!!!!!}

At this weeks band rehearsal, after playing parts of the "planets", the new this year Teacher told the entire band to stand, turn around and bow to the percussion section, as their playing of the piece was "Epic".
He also told the band they would be lost without them..........
