If you study the events leading up to the "nazification" of Germany, there are many similarities to the current situation. One primary difference is the relatively healthy economy we currently have. Some of the similarities include an atmosphere of fear, mistrust of "outsiders", enemies, both internal and external, the demonizing of some social/ethnic/religious group, and the erosion of individual freedoms in the name of security.

This in no way says the results will be the same because at least we have presidential term limits.

In one sense, there is no "term limits", when government has been given powers that span presidential term limits, there's very little change in attitudes or methods. It's the bad side of Civil Service, which probably should apply in a much more limited way to the questionably legal federal police forces. There is no federal police power within the Constitution. |
