Wow - you actually turn your brights OFF? I thought the high-beam was a factory compensation for the miserable penlight lows. Mine are on 100
% of the time, it's the only way I can compete with all the SUVs and their headlights five feet high plus those douchebags with the electric-blue arc lamps. I don't drive at night if I can help it.

Drivers who park in the fast lane and don't keep up with traffic are violating the rules of the road and are bad. People who drive over the speed limit in residential neighborhoods are worse. People with loud exhausts on the street that annoy neighbors are even worse than that.

Drivers should behave themselves and be responsible. That means keeping up with the flow of traffic on a munti-lane highway or freeway, driving the speed limit where kids might be, and keeping your exhaust quiet enough to be legal and allow others to live in peace.

Sounds to me like we all agree with those points with the exception of those who refuse to comply with them for selfish reasons. No offense......

Where exactly do you get off Ian? Seriously. What kind of f*cking jerk thinks that the people in a neighborhood have no right to want there children protected from pricks like you?

So a child runs out into the street after a ball, and you kill the kid. What are you going to say? "Parents should have taught them not to."?!?!!?!?!?

Grow the f*ck up. Its guys like you that give Porsche owners a bad name.

AND YES, I WILL SAY THIS DIRECTLY TO YOUR FACE IF YOU WOULD LIKE.

My 944S has a header, cat bypass, and barely any muffler, so it's only a little quieter than a race car. I short shift at 2000 revs all the time in my neighborhood so I don't rattle the neighbor's windows!

I don't know but this sentence is really scary.

I have 2 girls of 23 months and nearly 4yr. And I adore them and I would die for them. But the statement above gives me the chills.

I tried, but it only got moved. Just goes to show you that anyone can come on here and talk trash. All that does is trash up the place. Shame.

BTW, I've made my share of off color remarks and wild statements, to say the least. I even said once I'd punch a guy if I saw him after he really insulted me. But, I've never talked about killing anyone. That's just wrong and everyone here knows it.

This thread is useless and ought to be at least locked.

I don't think I quite understand the comparison between driving fast on the highway and driving fast in residential areas. I can agree with the former - heck that's why we have Porsche sports cars - but driving fast with kids around? That's just irresponsible, short sighted and yes, stupid.

You're supposed to be giving the kids a treat seeing your car idle by. Not scaring the crap out of them and their parents as you race down the street. I'm not going to say "I'd kill ya" but you'd better believe I'd be first to testify against you in court for reckless driving.

I find nothing scary about the statement. If some jerk regularly speeds through a neighborhood, perhaps a calm conversation while they stare down the barrel of a .45 would do them some good.

Yeah, there is a lot of big talk in this thread, but I feel it is well warranted when you have guys like Ian spouting such inane tripe.

Yes, you are unhinged.

The issue is about controlling other people or making them do what you want them to do over what they want to do.

I'm not saying I go 55 mph through neighborhoods where the limit is 30. I don't and never have.

What I'm saying is that my freedom to not be controlled by you or forced to conform to your personal definition of what's right and wrong is more important to me than your kids.

Sorry, but that's the way it is.

Why don't you just sit out in your yard and start shooting at people whom you think are going to fast?

Matteo, I am not a maniac. I would never brandish a gun unless there was a real threat to me or my family. I am talking trash.

Doesn't the crassness of Ians comments get you riled up in the least?

OK HardDrive I didn't catch the sarcasm in your reply, my bad. I will delete my post as it does nothing but exacerbate what it is already a stupid thread.

I do not want to comment on Ian's words.

The "I will Kill you" sentence on a 911 board just left me disgusted.

I have been almost run off the road while driving the 951 twice by someone in a minivan pulling into my lane right next to my car--not in front or behind but almost into me. Both times have been on major non-residential six-lane roads.

The first time was on Rt. 58 in Naperville. I was driving from a wedding to a reception and the jerk in the minivan was at the reception. It took all of my willpower not to beat him senseless in front of his children. I had to escape to the far left lane (thankfully there was room). I had just bought the car and the horn didn't work. (Fixed that next weekend though.)

The second time was here in Bloomington on the main road. Some lady was yapping with her cell phone in her left hand leaning against her window. She did a no-turn-signal ease into my lane. I laid on the horn hard. She never even put her arm down so that she could glance left.

Perhaps i am misunderstanding your point here?
BF you stupid a$$whole, if you knew anything.....

I'm just messing with you! I saw this was moved to O.T. and was trying to fit in. Next comes the death threats!

But seriously-To answer your query - There actually is a danger. As tight as govts can sometimes be, this is one area where they realize that the law (speed limit) goes largely unheeded. They actually have laws that supecede the speed limit such as the keep right law. To pass a slower car on the right has long been acknowledged as dangerous. We know that if someone is at 65 mph, people will pass on the right. Therefore it's illegal to stay in the left lane and impede traffic-even if you are going the speed limit. In other countries that have much higher speed limits, it is illegal, and suicidal to stay in the left lane except for passing.

You can argue the logic in that, but it's a law. A good one imo.

Where does all this tough-guy bull**** come from? I agree that people shouldn't be speeding in neighborhoods, but to state that you'd kill them for it? One day, you just might say it to the wrong person, and you probably have a lot more to loose than they do.

I know, I know, the prospect of saying that to the "wrong person" doesn't scare you because you're a total Billy-Badass type, but hey, it's food for thought...

I have an idea, instead of spouting off at the mouth and grabbing your Glock, which you'll probably miss with anyway, why don't you call the police? That way you don't miss and potentially shoot an innocent person, the person speeding gets arrested, and you don't go to prison and rob your family of a father and husband.

Put your temper and bravado away, grow up, and fully realize the implications of what you proposing to do.

bob i see your point.

ian your rights are trumped by the safety of others. always.

i'm sure the 'kill' comment was a knee jerk reaction but perhaps the two posts with this in them could be deleted? those of us who are parents know what it is to love a little one and God have mercy on any who would harm them. enuff said on that count.

Knee-jerk reactions can have very painful consequences. I found that out the hard, and painful, way. I got lucky (I'm still breathing), and the only reason I got lucky was because we were friends.

People who profess to be adults and are raising children should think about tempering their knee-jerks. I wonder how certain posters react to situations when their children are around. I hope they are better role models in Real Life(tm) than they are on the internet. Knee-jerks reactions like that are childish, and adults should put that kind of childish crap behind them and more fully think about what they are doing and saying.

As for the comments being deleted by a mod., I think it would be more telling for the original posters to delete them or edit them on your own. I suppose we'll see.

What I'd like to know is how I suddenly got branded as a person who speeds through neighborhoods endangering people's kids. Of course it's not OK to do that and I don't. I guess it was when Randy decided to kill me.

Our pal Brendon says he 'jams' people who drive through neighborhoods at speeds which he deems unsafe. Not good. What gives Brendon the right to make this decision for me? Suppose he decides that the speed limit on a particular section of road is too high, and he wants to force me to go slower than the posted limit. Is that OK because it's in a residential district? Is it more or less OK than to go 55 in the left lane on purpose because you don't want people speeding?

It's never OK to impose your will on other people against their consent, unless you're the gov't. Are you the gov't? I'm sure we can all agree even the gov't makes some bad decisions as well...

SlowT - agree with everything you say about restraint, role-models and common decency. Seems like some people shouldn't have kids to begin with I see.

Milt, thanks for the comments about the flatspotted tire!

ianc
