Isn't part of desire the lack of means to have it?

For instance, some of you all could easily go out and get a new 911. I probably can't (or I better be able to live in it). When the old aircooled were new, I certainly couldn't afford one. Made it all the more desirable.

Those that can buy it off the lot and trade it when the 998's come out may also be enthusiasts but because it represents less of something they have worked or waited to get (and I just don't mean build and delivery times) they don't love it as much when it's time to part ways.

Just a thought.

They may be more profitable than ever and that appeals to the businesswoman in me. however, they are not producing cars that sing to the enthusiast in me. I can appreciate the supremacy of a Cayenne, the effortless performance from a to b of a 997. They are NaPP: (Not A Proper Porsche
I couldn't agree more! Well stated!

Dr. Porsche stated that he wanted to build the working mans sports car. Thats exactly what he did. The porsche is available to common people, allbeit typical Mds with a lot of income, but not to just the really rich, like say a Bill Gates type of guy. anyone with a decent income can afford a brand new Porsche. Anyone who cannot clearly dosen't have a decent income. Only Democrats would call the typical income of a Porsche owner rich, but they call anyone with any income rich. I have an new Caddy, that cost almost the same as a Porsche, $57k, but since its not a Porsche, I must not be rich. Then theres the M635 I bought over 20 years ago, about $65K back then, but it wasn't a rich mans car , like a Porsche.

A Porsche is simply a GOOD CAR. A good handling, fun to drive car that anyone can really have. If you have bucks, you buy one new, if not you buy one used, the fun factor is the same. A Porsche is truly the working mans sports car.

I don't dispute a Porsche being a good car, but isn't a Corvette more of a working man's sports car. Least around me.

I've owned and driven a LOT of different cars and trucks. My Cayenne S (one of the first in the US) remains the best vehicle I've ever owned or driven (due in large part to the big V8 motor). Drove it over 70,000 miles in 1 and half years. It's the ONLY vehicle I've owned that I actually miss driving. As Denis so eloquently described it: "it makes everything else seem like a POS."

I do understand this is a highly emotional/traumatic issue for some so let the insults fly! They make good reading ...

Best car you've ever owned, sounds awesome, did you replace it with another S or a Turbo Cayenne?

The Vet cost about the same as the Porsche $65K, but the Porsche is a much more practical and nice car to drive. It dosen't beat up you kidneys, it actually has a trunk and in a pinch room for 4. About the only thing a Vet has going for it is it will probably beat the Porsche in the 1/4 mile. The Vet is still a Chevy and you have to put up with the crap of doing business with a Chevy dealer to buy one. Good luck getting a test drive in a Vet, you would be lucky to get to sit in one, and only if you have made a large down payment. I have parked my 2005 Caddy escallade ext. in the front of a chevy dealer and they wouldn't even unlock the stinking thing to let me sit in it. I have even parked my one year old BMW M6 in front of a Chevy dealer, they had no clue what it was, and again they would not even let me sit in their Vet, let alone test drive it. Note I was 49 years old at the time and dress well, no hippy attire. I have rented a couple of Vets, 2003, 2004, and have a friend that had a 64 365 horse 327 and a 66 L88, both of which I got to drive, so I do know how they drive and handle. A porsche is a much more refined and civilized car.

In other words if you can afford a Vet, you can afford a Porsche, excluding the GT of course.

The word retarded comes to mind.

Their product planners are on crack.

That car is even more ill-focused than the Cayenne, and if Porsche thought the SUV market was competitive, wait until they try selling 10s of thousands of those in the already crowded "expensive, large and fast 4 door sedan" market.

Plus, that car isn't even out yet, and it's already behind cars like the current 510 hp, V10, 7 speed SMG M5.
