Racist ad?
This ad is one of those classic stupid impact ads that we see every year, I think it's a bad ad.
That being said, the stink isn't that it's cheesy or petty, it's that it's "racist". I had no idea what they were talking about until Russert explained it at the end of the clip. Watch the clip until the ad plays through then pause it......then see if you can see what's "racist" about it. Un-pause the video and Russert will explain it. Do you see the racism? http://movies.crooksandliars.com/Russert-Mehlman-Fordad-10-23-06.wmv it the one titled "Is Ken Mehlman kidding? We should ask Harold Ford" As a note, the reference to the girl is that Ford apparently went to some stripper/Playboy party or something and they're giving him a hard time about it. EDIT****** I changed the title, I gave the wrong video title, scroll down the page to "Is Ken Mehlman kidding? We should ask Harold Ford"

I think it's a great ad, because it shows the sleazeball character of the Republicans to try to "BOX" the opposition, with not a single positive thing to say about their own candidate. A series of characatures, which box do you fit in..... If I were the Dems, I would insist they keep playing it, and sum it up by saying "the Republicans think you can be swayed by innuendos and simplistic notions like these, are you as stupid as they think you are"?
BTW, the "Playboy Party" refered to was a Super Bowl Party, not exactly your local Strip Club. And anyone see the Daily Show piece featuring a Porn Producer who became a Delegate to the Republican National Convention by charging a $5000 donation to the RNC on his Credit Card.

len, for some reason, the state GOP wanted to raise the "specter" of a black man with hot white women. It's a political race in the South, so that's supposed to turn white voters away from Ford. I think it's a lame ad and maybe the Southern voters will think that Ford gets hot chicks, so he must be a cool guy.

The ad is run by some individual organization not the party, so it's going to be wacky, that's not the point.

So again, the point isn't the ad or how it's what we hate about these campaigns. The question is:
When you saw the ad and paused it, did you think to yourself "that was racist"? Even a little?

len, since I have an interracial mariage (caucasian/asian), I don't get too hung up on race. If the voters in the the state in question see race in it, then that's a pisser. Once again, if Ford is getting white hotties, more power to him.

Maybe. Depends on where you are in the South.
If he's getting any hotties, more power to him. Just watch out for that stained blue dress.

However I think the Rep Candidate loses points for not saying "racist? What are you talking about?" or something like that.

I've heard Democrat pundits imply that Republicans are racist because Powell and Rice were hired by Bush. Don't really understand it. Something about Uncle Tom.

Just an observation:
Someone can be "for" or "against" something by innuendo, and by token action rather than by actual committment. Both parties have done it. Trot out the token (fill in the blank), show how "open minded and inclusive" you are...... All political statements should come with a very large shaker of salt.

nothing racist about it at all. I think that anyone who would take away racism from that add is infact a racist. Otherwise how could they derive racism from that add?

The funniest thing about Allen's campaign was when he addressed the question of his heritage.
When he announced at a rally of his supporters that his mother was Jewish, there was a lot of booing.

This looks like "swift boating" to me. The guy that writes the checks can't control the people he writes the checks to? That's a bit of a stretch, don't you think? "I can't control it, it's somebody else".
