Thank you! I have been trying to find that one. What a stupid, yet awesome undertaking.

He broke his back 7 times and spent a million dollars back in what the mid '70s for a failed attempt?

Hope he had good sponsors.

15minutes are up.

Wonder if it was left over from the old blackstronauts program

If the chute had not deployed, dead man riding...that car was entering a tumble.

The little wing things are cute, though

Hmmm, could a longnose Targa achieve 165 MPH this way?

so he planned that for 4 years. very meticulous. the car blew apart in the air, so sweet. I would like some specs on the car. His safety gear was first rate also. the open face helmet would help make identifying the corpse easier. wow

the full documentary film "the devil at your heels" for this stunt is outstanding.

evil kneivel checks the jump site and shakes his head.

the stuntman/star, ken carter, is quite nuts - often talking about himself in the third person as if he's not in the room...

from memory the fuel tanks blow up (and mostly destroy the car) 3 or 4 times during its construction.

and, after 4 years, they put someone else in his car!

this ain't no stunt, this is a failed attempt at the Darwin award...

a stunt relies on an element of skill , and bravery , something that can end successfully if done right

this , didn't require either of that

ability to steer straight.. big deal
beeing dumb enough to do it... uhuh
can be done succesfully , weird measurement of success imho

they could have stuck a monkey in that car and the result would have been the same...

ROFLMAO

That was great! But seriously, this guy is a goober. One million 1970 dollars to take a clown car 280MPH to "jump" a one mile wide river? To prove what...? That you are stupid enough to piss away $1 million and look really dumb? Well dude, you win that contest.

Oh, and they said he broke his back as they are carrying him on their shoulders in a sitting position. Nice...
