Throughout the "Old Testement" the same theme is repeated regarding the Sabbath, clipping the verse you mentioned:

but on the seventh day you shall have a holy sabbath of solemn rest

Note that the Sabboth was made for you (the reader) to rest. Some people have a hard time with that concept even to this day -- like my wife's bosses. They seem to believe that they are entitled to call her any day at any time at any place for work. We were getting calls from them when we were on vacation driving through the Alps a couple of years ago. The result -- after upteen years she's fed up with the place, burnt out, unhappy, occasionally depressed, not to mention she has had to miss many family occasions, or had them interrupted due to her work. The same was true in the Bronze age and earlier. It sounds like God had to put a little bit of a point to the idea to get it to sink in. But then leave it to us humans to take the idea and run with it by building up a huge infrastructure of rules and regulations to cloud the issue. The whole idea goes back to a very simple idea from Exodus 20:

8 Remember the sabbath day, and keep it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work. 10 But the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God; you shall not do any work—you, your son or your daughter, your male or female slave, your livestock, or the alien resident in your towns. 11 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but rested the seventh day; therefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day and consecrated it.

What are you talking about? First off, the Bible makes it clear that in the last days mankind would be extremely wicked (see second Timothy chapter 3 for example) so just look at all the social changes and reversal of law that occurred over the last forty or fifty years. We now have abortion on demand, massive pagan immigration and gay marriages to name just a few evils. Second, do a search for "sign" or "signs" in the gospels and you will see that Christ expected you to know the signs of the times. For example,

The signs of the Times and the End of the Age

7 So they asked Him, saying, “Teacher, but when will these things be? And what sign will there be when these things are about to take place?”

8 And He said: “Take heed that you not be deceived.
