Are you Republican or Democrat ?

Reading the recent threads, I get a feeling most are against the Democrats victory in Congress. Are most of you Republicans ?

Please vote, to give a foreigner a picture of how the affiliations are divided among Pelicans.

Livi, the truth is, most aren't against the Democrat victory in congress.

There may be a few who are. But there are a lot more who are not due to a few reasons. (1) because the person is a dem, or(2) a huge populace who like the accountability aspect the Legislative is supposed to hold the Executive to that was sorely missing under Republican control. They don't want to do their jobs, let's get someone who will.

Additionally, this board isn't really reflective of all americans, it's reflective of just a segment.

I'd think that there are a lot of people who also don't fall into either category/party. So perhaps you could amend your poll for an "Independent" or "Other" category, too.

Do not believe that this will be a representative sample of the country. By far the majority of the Porsche cars were sold in California, and we know that this state is very liberal.

Yes, there are a lot of conservative Porsche drivers in various parts of this country but one just has to look on the OT form to see how at times the conservatives are simply overwhelmed by the number of the liberals, the majority of them from SoCal.

As well would like to have seen a third catagory added, one of independent. I am a conservative, and guess should be labeled as a Republican but to tell the truth vote for the person, not the party and if there is a Democrat or Independent running who is better, they will get my vote.

I have never registered with either party in my life and probably never will. Lifelong independent. I sometimes vote (R) and sometimes vote (D). I've even voted for a few Libertarian and Green Party candidates in the past. I look at individual candidates and issues and don't resort to some dumbed-down platform of bullet points assembled by political machines with THEIR best interests (not the peoples') at heart to make my decisions for me.

I hope to see the decline and eventual disintegration of the political party system in this country. I'm not holding my breath, but I believe that would be a great day for America and democracy in general. The problem is in order for it to work, people need to be motivated enough to research the individual candidates and issues, and most either aren't (they're too lazy) or incapable of seeing beyond the "label" of a particular candiate or position (they're too stupid). But I can hope. . .

I have very little respect for anyone that aligns themselves completely with either party. It's saying in not so many words "I let _____________ think for me!" Idiots that do this are the problem, not the solution.

I won't vote for a Democrat or independent in a national race as the thought putting my stamp of approval on the traditional Democratic values (or actually the sometimes lack thereof) makes me want to slit my wrists. In this two party system, the majority PARTY holds the cards and I truly hate 90% or so of what the dems stand for.

At the present time, our system is what it is. Realistically, at the national level, a vote for an independant is just a waste of your time and a vote for the other party makes no sense.

On a local county level, I could vote for an independant and just maybe a dem if I had a big problem with the republican.

Good luck understanding The US's politics...the agenda is unknown to me still.

These two parties are both quite foul. The republicans aren't acting like it with their spending and poor choices (as well as poor ethical showing of late) and we simply don't know what the Democrats are going to do.

One thing I have seen of late in the Democratic party is the emergence of more conservative members; folks to don't want to associate with the choices of the current republican party I suppose. It seems that these folks don't "get" the socialistic side of the Democratic party but are against what the Republicans of late are doing. I hope this trend catches on because by inbreeding the Democratic party with more conservative financial views I think that it could appeal to a much broader base instead of just Santa Monica.

Ok, with the absence of an independent choice, which way are you most likely to vote; Rep or Dem?

Mike, the Democrats used to be the "conservative & southern" party. The Republicans were the "progressives". Then the 1950's happened and the magnetic poles reversed...

James, this is true - civil rights over time seemed to be the turning issue.

I consider myself an American.

The fact is that sometimes the democrats are right and sometimes the republicans. Sometimes a liberal approach is correct and sometimes a conservative approach is better.
When we put party or lib/cons above country we're no better than inner-city gang members. We even have gang colors now - the red guys and the blue guys. Sad and destructive.
