The good stuff often is. Sure looks like a nice one. I wonder if they'd take a '72 911S in trade?

I love Vettes, even have a few books on them and was going to get one as a middle life mental adjustment tool... until I found I could pick up a Porsche for less than five grand.

I have no hard feeling for the current trend in American classic cars that are bringing insane prices, supply and demand, hats off to them! Besides if it wasn't for the crazy prices I would be throwing around a big piece of American steel like I did in my youth instead of zipping around in my little 944... although I wouldn't be looking at a $250 water pump either.

The aluminum heads with the "rock crusher" M-22 4-speed make it a very rare beast.

A big block Stingray in 100 pt. (showroom) condition is a better investment than any commodity around, at least according to the history of the last 20 years. American muscle cars have done better than ANY other commodity.

These cars are so valuable that there is a whole industry around creating counterfeits, but if this is the real deal, (#s matching factory tri-power aluminum heads), it is valuable through the roof.

And if I won the lottery, I'd buy one of those on the first day.

Wow, I should show this to my brother-in-law, he has one just like it with the original 327-350hp engine and factory side pipes. His is a baby blue original color and quite correct. He hasn't run it in years due to some overheating problem.

Counterfeits? You mean like '73RS's and early 911S's?

Have to admit, I've often toyed with the idea of returning to my muscle car roots. Especially now that I've resigned from R Gruppe and am strongly thinking of letting my S registry membership expire. Hugh? IF your brother's small block 'Vette is a roadster and as good as you say? $$$$$$...sad to say, but probably close in market value to your DB4...perhaps even more.

I actually prefer the 327/375HP 1965 fuel-injected 'vette roadster to a rat motor for a driver, but the small blocks are not even in the same universe as far as value goes. A F.I. 327 would be top of the small block food chain, but only a BB 'vette is serious $$$. And it has to be rare, correct and documented #s matching.

Paul, for various reasons Porsches are harder to counterfeit due to meticulous factory record-keeping and much smaller overall production #s, but I guess a rube could buy a fake RS. selling a fake BB 'vette is much easier, there are people who print CF factory stickers, Protecto-plates, make CF tri-power set-ups, etc.. It's big business.

There was a fake '72 S running around Portland for years...I blew the whistle after it's blowhard owner pissed me off. Yes, I had, and still have proof of the counterfeiting. I've heard through the grapevine that he returned the car back to a T VIN, but I haven't seen the car to check this out. If he did so, that was wise, because VIN tampering is a federal felony. Might be harder to fake an RS, because of records and books out there, but it's relatively easy to switch VIN tags from a totaled S to a T....this bozo did it, for ego reasons. Some posting on the S registry still consider this loudmouth to be an early 911 God, paying him to check out the authenticity of cars for sale. I guess it takes a fraud to detect fraud, right? Caveat emptor, guys...

I picked a brand new '69 427/390 for my 20th b-day.

Never again. Trailing arm bearings, U-joints, etc routinely kaput. I worked on it in my friends shop every week just to keep it rolling. They ride like a truck and handle lousy.

An old solid lifter stock configuration need plenty of octane. I doubt that's available unless you run race gas.
