Another '58 Gibson Flying V Replica
Just got this one today. This is a hand made copy of a '58 Korina V built by one of the top 3 known replica V guys on the planet. I've never owned a real '58 V, but this luthier is reported to have built these guitars using two real '58s that were in his shop at the time for measurements, and the finer documented details that Gibson has continued to miss on their reissues are present on this guitar. Very cool guitar. Probably as close to a real '58 as I will ever get

![]() This guitar has the English Bareknuckles in it now. I don't know what to expect, but I'll probably be ordering my 4th set of Dr. V's from you soon ![]() |

I love flying V's. Syl Sylvain said that for some reason, the one he used in the NY Dolls always sounded wimpy compared to a junior or his black lp custom. Is it the korina wood?
As some of you are aware, I am also a huge fan of accurate replica guitars as I have a few Tokai and Burny Gibson clones to go along with my real gibsons... Nice score!

Is that a White Oak body?
What's the neck made out of?

Its known as Korina, but the technical term for the species of wood is White Limba.
These pictures make it look more red than it is. Its a more gray'ish color in person. Last edited by Shuie; 11-17-2006 at 05:27 AM.. |

That's beautiful - who's the luthier, and what other gear do you have?

problem is i don't and didn't 'perform' all that much..it was mostly an at home hobby, so the 'v' was difficult for a guy who prefers to play sitting down. but damn, they look good standing up!

I hear people says that all the time, but I've played them sitting down for years with no issues. The V section fits perfectly over one leg and makes the guitar really easy to play while sitting.

![]() Thanks. Luthier is known as Hiroshi Kid. He's probably 2nd or 3rd on the list of replica V guys that are allegedly no longer building the dead nuts accurate Gibson copies with the old wood. These guitars were built in Japan in the '90s. This is only the 3rd Hiroshi Kid V I've ever seen for sale. There are probably a dozen great luthiers out there that can build guitars like this today when they have the access to good wood. The templates are available and the details are documented fairly well at this point. I wont mention names if I know the guy is still building, but they are out there ![]() I've got a couple of other handmade replica's of '50s Gibson guitars and a '66 ES-345 right now. Also a Tele project, a replica Les Paul project, and a wrecked '60s EB-2 bass that Im going to convert to a 335 Last edited by Shuie; 11-17-2006 at 07:59 AM.. |

![]() I've been spreading the word at TGP, but it just doesn't even matter, these pickups are too good for people not to find out about them. Word is spreading like wildfire because they are crazy good. Nice work, man. Last edited by Shuie; 11-17-2006 at 08:08 AM.. |
