Cost of a Movie in your area
The Bond movie has me wondering what you pay for a 1st run movie in your area. We only paid $8 for Adults and $5 for student/Children.

There's a theater in Yukon, OK that shows first run movies for under $5 for adults.

I honestly have no idea. I can however estimate the amount you'd have to pay me to go to a theatre

$8 here, which is entirely too much IMO.

I usually wait until it come out on DVD, then get it in NetFlix.
My widescreen and sound system is almost as good as the theatre and popcorn a lot cheaper.

$12.50 for Casino Royale @ Mann's Chinese on Friday night. The newer ultra-premium theaters like the the Grove and The Arclight, (reserved seating, no commercials or trailers, no children, etc...), tickets can be $15.00 on weekends. ~Ten bucks for a popcorn+Sprite. Not a cheap date anymore.
Ticket prices have always varied by region; I was in Minnesota for Oct. and paid $8 to see a movie. Also, in the midwest I was able to see "Borat", and "The Departed", each on opening night, in a 2/3rds full theater. In NY or LA, forget about it..., they were sold out. You cannot get in to see any film that "opens" on the first weekend w/o advanced tickets here, I guess that nothing sells out in the heartland. I agree that seeing first-run films has gotten expensive, but for people who love film there is no substitute for seeing certain films in the cinema w/ an audience. Going to live concerts, skiing in the Rockies, owning a Porsche and taking it to the track, lots of things that people enjoy have gotten expensive. (Or always were). Dropping $20 to see a big film on the first night is small potatoes, but like going to some racetrack out in the middle of the dessert, you either "get it or you don't". Most people would rather paint their living room wall and set up a couple of chairs and watch it dry than go to a car race. To each their own, I guess.

I highly doubt those of us that don't go to theaters, do so because of the $. I would pay twice what you're talking if it were a pleasant experience, it's not.
The only good thing about seeing a movie in a theater is being able to speak intelligently at the next pop culture discussion at the watercooler. In this case, ignorance is indeed bliss ![]() I watch a lot of movies, I watch them comfortably from my chair, I can pause to piss, snack on whatever I want.....oh and I don't have to see, listen to, get out of my seat for, or smell a bunch of morons I don't know during the show. Again, the only downside to not going is being tragically unhip and I can deal with that.

For all of the reasons listed above, I haven't been in a movie theater in decades. Therefore, have no idea of the ticket price in this area.

paid $11 to see Borat last night. Full theater.
imho there is no substitute for a large screen experience. Seeing it at home just isn't the same. Sure you guys aren't just anti-social? ![]() |

When I was in high-school, minimum wage was $4.50 and so were movies. I went to 20 or more a year. Now movies are $7.50 and so is minimum wage. I go to 1-2 a year. (Probably more because I have less tolerance for the crap from Hollywood.)

Free from the library. Feature film starts whenever dinner is done.
I don't like supporting $20mil/film actors, nor the RIAA/MS/Sony putting spyware on my computer.

I don't go that much anymore... THe sound quality is pathetic in the mega-super-plex's these days and the sound is so loud it makes my ears bleed, and I'm 1/2 deaf from the 4 years I raced without ear plugs...

I can understand why you would not want to go see a lot of movies in the theatre, but try it once a year. It is a "live" experience (for watching film). Some movies (mainly action and suspense) are worth the premium.
$10 CDN per ticket (USD$8.78). Everything costs more in Canada (including Porsches) and they pay us less and tax us more. Fastpat would hate it here. We can't even leave the country with $10K (that's ~$8,7800 FP) legally. Personally, I don't think people should be carrying that much cashis on them as it most of the time is for a bad purpose but I'm way off topic.
