holy schmoly, crazy garage

Not so much the tools, etc..., it's the cars.

Weird feeling to live just tree miles from the factory of a super car praised in such a video. Even more weird that the founder and head of the company Christian v. K., can not afford to have one of his own.

And possibly even more weird hearing the man go "I have yet not had the opportunity to drive it" about his CGT !!!

Can't believe he's hadn't even driven the Carrera GT yet.

I'd also like to see his yearly maintenance bill for all those!

He hasn't had the time to drive the Carrera GT yet?

Impressive collection of cars.

Of all the obvious supercars I was excited to see the Detomaso Pantera and the CLK DTM.

Just cram it into the nearest vacant parking lot at work. Between a SUV and a pic up truck. Top off.

I'm sure he could arrange to NOT have anyone park beside him at work, seeing as he owns the company...

It shouldn't be too bad if he doesn't drive them.

Especially the Porsch. Not a typo, but a quote from him.

Maybe I'm being to critical, but if you're a car guy wouldn't you at least learn to pronounce your cars right? My rant is over.

Those crazy Brits can't pronounce anything correctly. Besides, it doesn't really bother me if someone leaves the "-ah" sound off of the end. I saw a video of folks from the Porsche factory or maybe Ruf. About half of them pronounced it Porsh-a and the other half pronounced it Porsh.

Sorry for the OT, but the one word that irks me is aluminum. Why would it be called aluminium... Gotta' love those crazy Brits!

I call it a Porsch... I don't care... In Europe everybody calls them Porsch. Even in Germany...

You don't call your Bimmer a BA AM WAA, do you? Or your Benz a MERZEDEES?

Mike.. ALUMINUM :1812, coined by Sir Humphry Davy (1778-1829), from L. alumen "alum" (see alum). Davy originally called it alumium (1808), then amended this to aluminum, which remains the U.S. word, but British editors in 1812 further amended it to aluminium, the modern preferred British form, to better harmonize with other element names (sodium, potassium, etc.).

No, in Germany they call it "Porscher". Have you heard Norbert Singer on Victory by Design?

Thanks Matteo. At least I understand why they say aluminium, even if it does irk me a little...

Most times I'll call it Porsch a or sometimes I'll catch myself saying Porsch. Just to avoid confusion and frustration, I'll call it Carrera, 911, etc... I know people mis-pronounce my last name all of the time, so I'm kinda' used to it.

Mike

Mike
My Uncle moved over here from Britain in the mid 70's and I followed him over about 7 years ago. Now I don't know if this story is true, but I like it...

According to the story it once was aluminium here, just like the rest of the world.
Very early on in the industrialization of America, a company that was dealing with aluminium in some form produced all their company advertising, stationary, etc with the word 'Aluminuim' misspelled as 'Aluminum'. Rather than have to pay to have everything reprinted with the correct spelling, they decided that they would change the 'correct' spelling, and so it has been 'Aluminum' here ever since.

I think 911teo's expalination is more plausible!

As for this chap, he is almost definitely British and I would guess that this is from a Top Gear episode.

What a fortunate fellow!

You know, though, stranger things have definitely happened, especially during that time. It's not that much different now, really. Think of some of the words that have been added to dictionaries lately...

Sounded like Vicki Butler-Henderson in a 5th Gear episode to me, but that's splitting hairs...

Later,
Mike

Top Gear - 5th Gear whatever, but you're probably right. I only ever saw Top Gear before I moved here, so it becomes the generic name for all of them.

I wouldn't mind having Vicki Butler-Henderson in my garage...
