How many of you do this ?

....sitting in your sleeping beauty in the garage at night. Longing for spring...hating winter, darkness, cold, salt... :(

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1164398516.jpg

Fully serviced with a newly installed SW chip....and this is where she is caged in. Who ever invented winter should be flogged.

Ok Pat and just how is Markus going to get his car from Sweden to SC?
Too much Phantom this evening?

I heard the North Atlantic was going to freeze over this year. No? http://images20.fotki.com/v355/photo...9/shrug-vi.gif
Moderate? Hmmmm.:p

I will say this, though. When I was a very young man, maybe 12-13 or so, I went to this new car dealership and did the sitting in them, moving the gear shift around, pretending to be driving at Le Mans. The cars? I thought you'd never ask. Brand new Austin Healey 100-6's (the 3000 wasn't out yet), new Triumph TR3's, Sprite's, and one very unusual car with a Prancing Stallion on the steering wheel. A Ferrari racing car, the only one the company ever made with a four cylinder engine in it. Ah, those were the days. Yeah, baby, this is my Ferrari. http://images19.fotki.com/v37/photos.../smokin-vi.gif

Joeaksa 11-24-2006 08:55 PM

Livi,

I bought a spare set of BBS wheels (the cast cheap ones) and put snow tires on my car. Drove it all winter long when living in Germany a while back.

That said, come to Arizona and experience winter as it should be. 15-20 degrees (celcius) sunny and simply wonderful!

I have to say this has never crossed my mind. Of course I live in So Cal.

HardDrive 11-24-2006 09:37 PM

I drive me 911 about once a week during the winter. Seattle rain......targa......yes, I arrive at work with my left knee slightly damp.

alf 11-24-2006 11:01 PM

Drive it, you must.

livi 11-25-2006 12:12 AM

The only reason I donīt drive her is for fear of the dreaded tin worm. Here in the south of Sweden we have a relatively mild climate most of the winter season and the snowy period is usually rather short. The problem is black ice. People donīt seem to respect the obvious risk of sliding off the road. They keep driving as fast as in summer. This makes the authorities pull out the salt trucks.

And as I understand it:

salt + water + exposed metal parts = http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/bomb.gif

to a certain extent yes, that's correct
but your's has been galvanized, so it is protected a lot better then say a 2.4 or 2.7

i would look at it this way , porsches that sit still for 5-6 months aren't much better off then those who do get out occasionally for a weekend run.

standing still hurts every mechanical bit of your car, bearings, tires, engine seals, brake fluid, oil , fuel goes to crap

i mean , every part of that car, that isn't just sheetmetal, benefits from the occasional run...

if the salt worries you , simply rince the bugger with regular water in your garage, especially the wheel wells...the sills
and park it really hot, in a warm garage...

you'll feel more relaxed, your car will probably benefit from this as well....and it'll be in peak condition when spring comes around

could be once a month, and that would make the salt exposure the equivalent of what my 944 sees on a yearly basis, as it sleeps outside, and definately get's ridden in snow (we don't get it often, so i have to rise to the occasion :) ) and i've yet to find a single bit of structural rust on mine, just some where the stones chipped my paint on my headlight covers... and that's not salt related at all

livi 11-25-2006 01:09 AM

Right you are, Stijn.

It is CATCH 22. Saving one part ruins the other.

On one hand I should just drive her regularly. The corrosion will not explode.

On the other hand, many claim that engine parts can always be replaced but when the rust finally get a firm grip, the road to oblivion has inevitably begun.

On the "third hand", it is after all just a car. Nothing really important in life. I should just enjoy it while it lasts.

Rick V 11-25-2006 04:33 AM

Markus,
I drive mine until the salt trucks hit the road. I don't drive her in the rain, so hiding from the snow is easy for my mind to hang on to. The roads clear well enough for me to drive every once in a while.
I feel your pain, but you can't keep her locked up all winter long...........not good for the car or you.
Forget the "It's just a car" thing, they are so much more. Yes they are only metal and leather pieces but they are so much more than that. When you get right down to it people are made from nothing more that a pile of chemicals.............think about it.

fastpat 11-25-2006 04:57 AM

rubber, lube, battery, it's all in there, right???

livi 11-25-2006 07:16 AM

Good points Rick!

There is no way I can endure a 5 months withdrawal from my 3.2 flat six air cooled dildo.

Leather, don't forget the leather.:)

Rick V 11-25-2006 08:34 AM

This thread has now gone to the dark side..........................uummmmmmmmmm leather

livi 11-25-2006 09:14 AM

Right. Perhaps it is time to compile a list of pros and cons with metal versus flesh mistresses. Advantages and disadvantages. Pictures will not go amiss.

Stijn, you care to start ? :)

svandamme 11-25-2006 09:17 AM

nope.

Rick,

You are a supreme example of the original thread subject.

But, sleeping in your car ?!!

That is really impressive! :D

to damned tragic and i don't have any booze in the house to drown the story once i finish it....

livi 11-25-2006 10:31 AM

Stijn,

I know. Sorry to bring up bad memories.

On a side note, I am actually getting fairly pissed here. Does not take more than a half bottle of wine nowadays. Been dancing in the kitchen for an hour with my kids. Hannah, 20 months old, moving her hips left to wright to the music. Hilarious. We have been going threw Katrina and the Waves "Walking on Sunshine" all the way to Rolling stones "Start me up".

Strange repertoire for a single dad, but they all love it.

Rick V 11-25-2006 10:59 AM

Markus,
I think you just found your Porsche replacement. I recon we'll have to keep all the leather talk down until the kids go to bed. :)

livi 11-25-2006 11:36 AM

Done.

The little one fell sound asleep to the tunes by David Lindley. Soon the other three will follow and Iīll be heading out to the garage and my mistress..

...maybe Iīll try out that comfy back seat..

svandamme 11-25-2006 11:50 AM

i really couldn't do it... i didn't have a garage, but if i did , and my targa would have been in it, with a working engine... i would never have been able to resist the temptation to drive...

hell , the only reason i got rid of the bugger, is because i couldn't drive it enough, because the garage was 35 miles away... and i couldn't get in when i wanted to...

Rick V 11-25-2006 12:13 PM

I thought I had it bad. You guys almost make me feel normal. :)

livi 11-25-2006 01:06 PM

Yup, thats us pitiful Europeans for ya. As a slight compensation we got those nice slender rear bumper pads and a few more ponies under the lid. :D

Steve PH 11-25-2006 01:55 PM

Galvanisation isnt exactly the be all and end all of avoiding rust but surely if you got you cars sills wax oiled it would be pretty much impervious to the old tin worm. No reason why you shouldn't enjoy the car over winter, just keep an eye on things.

Moneyguy1 11-25-2006 02:06 PM

Markus:

So when do you see the sun again?
