How many of you do this ?
....sitting in your sleeping beauty in the garage at night. Longing for spring...hating winter, darkness, cold, salt...

screw it Livi , just learn to drive the 911 on snow , it's a total blast !
put on skinny tires and get it over with your 911 is from the same year as my 944 and i guarantee that my 944 sleeps outside and it will be flogged through rain , snow , hail, anything mother nature throws at it ! no rust... unlike my former pre galvanizing longhood pretty targa lemmon rustbucket...

![]() Moderate? Hmmmm. ![]() I will say this, though. When I was a very young man, maybe 12-13 or so, I went to this new car dealership and did the sitting in them, moving the gear shift around, pretending to be driving at Le Mans. The cars? I thought you'd never ask. Brand new Austin Healey 100-6's (the 3000 wasn't out yet), new Triumph TR3's, Sprite's, and one very unusual car with a Prancing Stallion on the steering wheel. A Ferrari racing car, the only one the company ever made with a four cylinder engine in it. Ah, those were the days. Yeah, baby, this is my Ferrari. ![]() |

Livi,
I bought a spare set of BBS wheels (the cast cheap ones) and put snow tires on my car. Drove it all winter long when living in Germany a while back. That said, come to Arizona and experience winter as it should be. 15-20 degrees (celcius) sunny and simply wonderful! Joe

The only reason I donīt drive her is for fear of the dreaded tin worm. Here in the south of Sweden we have a relatively mild climate most of the winter season and the snowy period is usually rather short. The problem is black ice. People donīt seem to respect the obvious risk of sliding off the road. They keep driving as fast as in summer. This makes the authorities pull out the salt trucks.
And as I understand it: salt + water + exposed metal parts = ![]()

but your's has been galvanized, so it is protected a lot better then say a 2.4 or 2.7 i would look at it this way , porsches that sit still for 5-6 months aren't much better off then those who do get out occasionally for a weekend run. standing still hurts every mechanical bit of your car, bearings, tires, engine seals, brake fluid, oil , fuel goes to crap i mean , every part of that car, that isn't just sheetmetal, benefits from the occasional run... if the salt worries you , simply rince the bugger with regular water in your garage, especially the wheel wells...the sills and park it really hot, in a warm garage... you'll feel more relaxed, your car will probably benefit from this as well....and it'll be in peak condition when spring comes around could be once a month, and that would make the salt exposure the equivalent of what my 944 sees on a yearly basis, as it sleeps outside, and definately get's ridden in snow (we don't get it often, so i have to rise to the occasion ![]()

Right you are, Stijn.
It is CATCH 22. Saving one part ruins the other. On one hand I should just drive her regularly. The corrosion will not explode. On the other hand, many claim that engine parts can always be replaced but when the rust finally get a firm grip, the road to oblivion has inevitably begun. On the "third hand", it is after all just a car. Nothing really important in life. I should just enjoy it while it lasts.
