Time Warner Cable
Time Warner has taken over in my area. Anybody have experience with them? I was thinking of having my phone service service through them too.
Or is it time for the Dish?? |

I use them in Houston, TX and I used them in Albany, NY
Service has been good, but we had to kill the phone service. Not reliable enough. I expect it would be fine now, since they fixed the cable line in our area. Road Runner speed here run abour 4 MBPS, which is pretty darn good for $40 per month. I have checked checked out DISH and DIRECT TV and compared what I get and then a similar offer from them. We get _everything_. Almost no difference. If you do decide digital phone, do it, but get something like Vonage. It's way more portable.

They took over in my area of LA as well. My first experience with them was positive as they dropped the cost of my cable internet quite a bit from what I was paying with Adelphia. This was at my request, but the operator was nice on the phone.
My second experience with them is that Im getting some bounce-back on my internet phone where the person on the other end hears an echo of themselves. This is apparently due to upload speed. Time Warner says that when they upgrade us to R.Runner, there will be a much faster upload speed....however there are now delays in this switch to RR service for whatever reason. |

I'm running Vonage for a phone in Mexico with a 500K DSL line and it sounds like next door.

I use them for cable, phone and internet, nothing but positives to report, very good service and they have even been easy to work w/ when home visits were needed.

My only issue with them (both in Houston and San Antonio) is that they seem to have a tendency towards getting into contract disputes and playing hardball with their customers. In Houston we actually lost all Fox service for about 2 weeks while TWC and Foz bickered. Here in SA I still don't have Fox HD over cable because they can't agree on a contract. That has been 3 years now...

Just thank the cable gods you do not have COX. I cannot tell you how many times they have been out to our domicile and we STILL have dropouts, some channels that do not come in at all and last two times they sent out "teams", each consisting of Larry, Curly and Moe. First team said our problems would require all new internal cabling (it is 5 yrs old). Second team said our cablew were OK. Go figure. We had Time Warner "back east" and had virtually no problems with them.

I have had to call for service a couple times, and they were responsive. Their contractors showed up on time and got the job done. They keep making my connection faster and faster as well! Currently 6mb. Its smoking fast.
No complaints.

For the most part they've been good to deal with, but I did have a major problem with them this last year. My HD-DVR box would lock up everytime I scanned through the movie channels. I asked Time Warner about the problem and they said some boxes have the problem and some don't. I went through about 6 boxes and they all did it.
So I called the manufacturer, Atlanta Scientific. They said it's not the box it's the firmware and that Time Warner is a big enough company that they should be able to fix it. They did finally after about 6 months. Fortunately they added a few more features like super fast fast-forward on the DVR, but still six months! My wife even talked to a friend that's pretty high up at Time Warner Houston. My wife told me her friend brought it up at a meeting and was told there was a problem. Her friend was pissed that she hadn't been told about this by her staff. Communication problems perhaps? It was still a month or two after this incident that it was fixed.
