1962 Chevy II Nova Station Wagon

Bought with a warped head so I rebuilt the motor, did the brakes and painted it. Broke my heart when an idiot pulled out in front of me from a parking lot and the crash destroyed the pristine front end (grill, bumper, hood). I was on my way to say goodbye to the girlfriend as I was leaving for college the next day. Kind of ruined the whole moment.

1968 Datson 1600 (510) with a 1800 motor and twin webers. when that blew up a 2.0 litre was dropped in. quick little fun car.

1961 Volvo 544 was first road car. Prior to that, had a 50 Crosley Station Wagon and a 58 BMW Isetta, which I ran in the fields (!) and the private roads we grew up on.

Wish I'd kept the Isetta, what with the insane prices they're now going for.

$600 1968 Opel Kadet station wagon with 1.5 liter engine, later wedged a 1.9 in there (it didn't fit) and ran it till it seized.

1986 Crown Victoria. Black with red pinstriping. Red interior. Paid $1500. Drove it across the country twice. Never stranded me once in 30000 miles. One day the exhaust rusted off. It sounded SO cool- I didn't fix it. I went home from college one weekend to visit the parent folks, and when I woke up at 1 in the afternoon my father had gotten a new exhaust! I was pissed, it was neutered now. Paid $150 for the new muffler, and paid $400 for shocks and brakes. Sold for $1000. So I drove 3 years and 30000 miles for $1000. Not bad. I miss it, it was dead realiable. Too bad the rust was gonna kill it long before the engine.

1967 Sunbeam Alpine with a hole in one of the pistons. Bought it for $450, rebuilt the engine and drove it all through high school.

As i was the only one in my "posse" to have a car, there would sometimes be as many as 6 of us riding in that thing with the top down.

What a great car that was! And by great i mean it leaked oil, wouldn't start, blew fuses, smoked, was slow... But it was my first car so it might as well have bee an GT3.

One of these in orange. Had 200K on it when I got it. 300K when it went to the boneyard. Shoulda rebuilt the motor. Great car. Went through university in it. Camped, road tripped, moved apartments, stuffed 15 people in it.....

The first car I had to drive was a 1976 Austin Mini that I bought from my Mum, for the equivalent of about $500. I had an astounding amount of horsepower available in that car. If I remember correctly it was at least 36bhp!

I don't know whether this was the first car I bought as I had a 1967 MGB GT at about the same time, but I certainly didn't drive the MG for a year or two after buying it. Don't know if I could have handled 98bhp that soon! :D

In 1981 I bought a 1967 VW Deluxe 21 Window Micro Bus - sure wish I still had it. Used it for beach runs and first couple of years of college.

1981 Toyota Starlet, AKA Yoda or the "rolling turd" (It was Sephia-ish). $2K in 1986.

The thing was a boat, but it had a Wildcat LT401 engine in it that made haul a$$!!! :D

Plenty of room in that thing as well. Looking back, that was one of the funnest cars I've ever had. (Not as fun as my Targa, mind you, but fun just the same. :) )

Maybe it's because I only paid $75.00 for the thing. ;)

In the eighth grade (1961?) my buddy and I purchased a '52 Chevy with a blown engine, and a rusty '53 with a blown transmission but good engine. Fixed up the '52. I remember taking great pride in dirty fingernails. Invested I think less than $60 and sold it to my brother for $100.

First car--In 1966, a 1963 MG Midget. It had sliding windows that bolted on the window frame. It was so much fun in the sun in Florida that I loved every minute driving it. Blue with a white racing stripe down the car. Man, it WAS SMALL.

JFK713 11-30-2006 03:28 PM

My first car was a 1974 Fiat 124 Spider, it had a larger Weber carb, header and exhaust. I loved that car, I grew up in Saratoga, so every afternoon, my buddies and I would tear up Highway 9 (a great Bay Area road). Tires didn't last very long and I am amazed we all lived through it and were never arrested!
