a 1966 Mustang that my dad I bought from the original owner in MD. Six cylinders of raw power. Was my only form of transportation from VA to IA for College. Put over 45,000 miles on that car.
Still have it. Its in my garage undergoing a 2 year disc brake upgrade process. Bill |
1964 Chevrolet Impala
Bought it out of a field for $50. Pulled the straight 6 and dropped in a 283. Fixed it up real nice and drove it all through high school and college. Still own it 25 years later, of course now its back sitting in a field on my farm, quietly rusting away. |
Mine was a 1980 Dodge Aspen...Very tough engine...
|
1982 VW Rabbit. 4sp, mint green, sunroof, fuel injected. an absolute blast around home town.
|
1974 914 Special Edition...Didn't know about the special edition until I sold it. Great car; handled like a go-cart but I got so many tickets in it...Small south Georgia town, 16 year old and a black "Porsh" with tinted windows don't mix. Still miss it after 22 years.
I need to buy another one. |
Mine was a 64 Ford Galaxy 500 4 door purchased in 1977 when I was 15. I paid $100 for it. Ran great. 289 V8. Got maybe 10mpg, but gas was only about $.50 a gallon. I could stuff a lot of dead rabbits, quail and huns in that huge trunk, along with my shotguns and 30.06.

Then, you removed the rear seat backrest and laid it across the brackets between the front and rear seats, placing the front seat backrests where the rear one was. Voila! Instant bed! First car I got laid in, as well. |
'64 Thunderbird...no brakes, some rust, $500 from an entire summer washing dishes (by hand*) at a pizza joint.
http://oldcarandtruckpictures.com/Fo...rbird-Ht-1.jpg Three speed, big-arse 390 cubic inch truck motor. Leaked PS fluid but had way-kewl Buck Rogers dashboard: http://www.affordableclassicsinc.com...ird%20Dash.JPG * Feel free to inject your Monty Python "Four Yorkshiremen" type comment) |
1971 Dodge Colt in Powder blue, no pic but found this on google.
I bought it for $600 with money I made tossing papers and then working as a lineman at the local small airport. I bought it when I was 15 and could not afford to insure it and didn't have my license yet so I just worked on the little things on it until I could afford to get it insured and got my license. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1164940798.jpg |
1978 Cutlass Calais.
Ooooohhhh yeahh... Robin's egg blue with the white (vinal? viynal? vynal? naugahyde? leather-like-plastic-but-cracked-and-skanky?) top and interior. Posi but the little engine (283?). It was my grandmother's. This was 1990, in SW MI. <25k miles. Cherry -- until the bumper rusted off. Bungee cord fixed that just like all the other GM cars if its era. Sadly, that was my peak until 2000. Went through a bad stretch: '86 Escort, '90 Geo Prizm ("hey baby, it's really a Corolla"), '83 Cherokee with the 2.8L Buick engine) 'till I got a 2001 VR6 GTI. Then came a '98 Volvo V70T5 and the SC. Never got any in the Calais though I got some with a pinched nerve bonus in the Escort. So what will I pay $100k for at Barret Jackson(TM) in 2025? The Calais or the Escort? Is it that you want the car you had on a poster over your bed, the first car you had, or the first car you got laid in? Any of those outcomes --- not looking good... mike '78SC |
1970 BMW 2002 with a '74 front end. Cost $800 in 1987.

Mine was a '55 Ford 2 dr. sedan w/ 3 speeds + overdrive. That was in 1960. I learned to drive on a '44 military Jeep. I'd like to have one of those now.

1964 Corvair Monza convertible. Rear engine from the beginning for me. 46 cars later...still rear engine air cooled. Love the smell of oil.
|
1968 Volkswagen Squareback. Everybody had a bug, so I had to be different. ;)
|
...identical to this: 1960 Mercedes 180B.
The car did over 300,000 miles before I sold it to someone who restored it and still has it. An absolutely bullet-proof car. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1164947059.jpg |

1977 Honda cvcc, $700 in 1989. Ran great till 1st, 2nd and 5th gear went out. |
Still have my first car, a 1961 Aston Martin DB4, bought it 35 years ago when I was in the USMC in England and shipped it back to the US paid the princely (then) sum of $1,750, about the price of a used Pinto or Vega. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1164947744.jpg

My first was a '69 Chevy C10 beater Pickup. My college car was a '84 Chevy Chevette! One of the most reliable cars I ever owned! Oh yeah, and the chicks digged it! There was plenty of room in the back with the rear seats folded down ;) |
