Storm!

I got up at 5:30 this morning to start shoveling. Good thing, as the snow blower wouldn't start up. It took me an hour to do the driveway, not so much because there was a lot of snow (only 4-6 inches), but because it had rained and the snow was wet, heavy and icy. Some large, icy branches came off of my trees while I was shoveling.

My neighbor came by to tell me that it was all over the radio that my employer had closed all of its offices today. Kinda unusual for so little snow.

I went to work anyway. It took me 20 minutes. It's usually a 3-5 minute drive, but the wet snow made traction low so I took my time.

When I got to work there was NO ONE there. I decided to leave after half an hour. On the way out, I passed a security guard at the door that was telling people not to come in, the office was closed. She was kinda confused to see me leaving. (There was no one there when I got in.)

This is pretty unusual, I've heard stories from the old-timers that the office never even closed in the winter of '78. I'm curious as to what the reasoning will be when I get to work on Monday.

When I got back home, I found that my cable/broadband was out (just came back half an hour ago). I played Metroid Prime all day (still haven't beaten it).

I love a good snowstorm that makes you stay home, make a nice fire and play some video games. Especially on a friday !

I work in IL weekly, but somehow lucked out and got sent home to burn up vacation this week. I've been monitoring my work email and I saw the 'work from home today' warning emails saying there was a foot of snow on the streets and that you needed a 4x4 to get to the office.

You poor souls....Why just last night it got down to 31 degrees here and we had to cover the tomato plants...Talk about suffering!! Then today it only got up to 64. Terrible!!

(Hey....I DO remember miserable Winters living in Roachester New York, on the shores of beautiful Lake Ontario and shoveling out 42" snowfalls twice in a two week period....So my heart really does go out to anyone suffering through a bad snow season)

Since when is a few inches of snow "getting clobbered". Everytime it snowed when I was a kid, we'd listen for the school closings. It didn't happen too often.

At GE, we closed the office once for snow: Storm was 22 inches.

Well, my snowblower started on the 1st pull.....Only thing was, it had a slow oil leak and all the oil dripped out over the summer. It seized after about 3 minutes and I'm back to the shovel.......Winter sux.......

wah wah wah. In Massachusetts, I had a 50x15 driveway, all gravel, so it was by hand or hire a service. Freaking snowplow guy never did the driveway before I needed to go to work. 7 years, all by hand.

NY weather for Friday was rainy, windy and 73 degrees. Felt like a FL winter.
