Working on airplanes prohibited in the home

Another jackbooted government restricts freedom. Where do these government thugs come up with these wacky ideas?

When a whiny neighbor has a buddy on the city council and keeps harassing the plane builder. This is local to me, I read up on it, kind of old news

They could say "no working on your car at home" and use used oil dumping as an excuse man...

I bet that'll be tried at least...

I'm from Jax and that ordinance is just plane stupid. Seriously - it's not like EVERYONE or even a significant number of people are building planes at home. My understanding is that this even has the possibility to effect radio control model airplanes. WTF?! I've never paid much attention to local politics in JAX but this really really seems lame.

Probably less than 1% of the population builds planes in their garage. If on neighbor had a problem with another in this regard it should have been handled in court and not through lame legislation that effects others who weren't causing a problem.

What I want to know is how this is unconstitutional?

Airplanes are not mentioned in the constitution as far as I know.

I guess its not just liberal judges that suck after all. I hope this crap is fought and brought down.

When I was a kid, there was this guy in my parents neighborhood. We used to call him Mr. Harvey home owners association. He used to call the cops when my band was practicing and what not. He lived 3 houses down from us too. None of our direct neighbors complained we even asked them if they were bothered by the noise.

My dad had a 69 Camaro that he had finished and he was breaking in the motor with open headers. The dude came RUNNING over into the garage and started yelling and screaming to shut it off. When he saw that it was not one of us kids he turned around and walked home.


A few days later me and a bunch of my friends did cookies in his from lawn at 3 AM took out all of his saplings too I think there were 3 if I remember right. Left tire tracks all over his yard and driveway.

I did not like that guy and I still do not like people like him.

Just kidding.

Working with fiberglass does create toxins, but so does doing bodywork on your car. I don't see how this is legal but I'm no lawyer.

It should violate the Florida Constitution which should be based on English common law like the rest of the east coast states. One of the bed rock premises of common law is the reasonable man test or theory, wherein one could do just about whatever one wanted to do as long as it did not interfere in some unhealthy way with someone else. For example, my mother's house is built on 1.5 acres of land in town. Building an airplane or motor home, or the like is entirely reasonable because neither poses any sort of hazard upon another person, neither would constructing a cannon. It would be unreasonable for her to decide to begin a hog farm, purchase 50 hogs, and start feeding them and so forth; even if there were no ordinance restricting such activity. It wouldn't be reasonable to test fire a cannon either.

Unfortunately, over time, the courts have used these traditional, common laws to set precedence for an ever tightening set of rules hemming in what one may or may not do on one's own property. Can't operate a hog farm, then chickens are now inappropriate. Can't operate a dog breeding operation with 20 or 30 dogs, now you need a dog fanciers license for more than two dogs, and on and on. Have a car you're restoring in your driveway on jackstands, car can be towed away as having an inoperative vehicle in public view.

In some neighborhoods you can't cut down trees which you own, because your neighbors like to look at them and don't care if they dump leaves or needles on your home or pose a hazard to it from falling.

And that, folks, is why all of us must rethink how we interact with each other, how it is unreasonable for us to try to demand our neighbors live in a way that pleases us, must mow their lawns, must not work on cars at their homes, must not operate leaf blowers after 3PM, and above all, must not let government get involved in these issues at all.

You hear certain folks; Limbaugh, O'Reilly, and other so-called conservatives; mention repeatedly that things not mentioned in the Constitution (the federal one, not state) are not protected against government intrusion. This is patently false for two reasons.

First, government is not, repeat NOT, authorized to regulate anything specifically NOT mentioned as authorized for regulation by the Constitution. The Constitution is an envelope within which the federal government must remain, there are no exceptions.

Second, rights do not have to be mentioned in the Constitution in order to be protected from government intrusion. That's part of common law, but specifically written into the Bill of Rights in the 9th Amendment.

This is why I live 20+ miles from civilization. I would like to see them try and stop me from building whatever the fuch I want in my garage and shop.

One of the things they're (the US government) planning for us rural residents is the National Livestock Identification Program which will include nearly every animal on a rural farm, or other piece of land. Expect to have a requirement, eventually, to admit people on your land so that they may verify that you do not have these animals living there. Pet goats, chickens, and other animals are all included in this invasive scheme. What if you were a neighbor and wanted a little peace and quiet instead of living next to an industrial shop? Oh, screw everybody else, I only care about myself. Bah!

There's a reason we have zoning laws and it has nothing to do with government infringement or freeedoms. It has to do with organized, civilized co-existance and common sense, which isn't so common around here. If some dickhead wasn't making too much noise and making a mess and creating an eye sore this whole thing would have never come up.

It doesn't say you can't work on or build airplanes, it just says you can't do it in a residential neighborhood which, coincidentally is supposed to be for residences, not businesses or machine shops.

i say to him quit yer *****ing and get a shop in a properly zoned area and build to your heart's content.
What's that? can't afford to rent a shop? Then maybe you need a better education or job or a different hobby.
Or maybe you should have shown some respect for others around you in the first place. Naw that would be too easy.
