I've never seen a bigger bunch of snobs in my life. Get real. The world in general doesn't own a Porsche and shop at Nordstroms. One reason I sold my Harley was because I was fed up with lawyers in high dollar leathers and fake pony tails who were dangerous to ride with. The attitude displayed here isn't much different.

Go have your wine and cheese and stay the hell out of Walmart. I'm sure they'll survive just fine without your patronage. I didn't expect such a display of pompous snobbery on this board.

Git er done.

But pomposity is such fun.

When the Walmart crowd wants to feel superior they watch Springer uncut.

I think it's not snobbery but simply a desire to not shop in a dumpy craphole with a bunch of people that make you feel uncomfortable.

Build a flower garden and you'll attract honey bees and hummingbirds. Build a compost heap and you'll attract flies and dung beetles. Somethin' like that.

I like Walmart. I was there at 8:00 AM this morning. The people watching is always good and I always feel almost normal after every visit.

About 10 years ago, I dated a blonde who was 21 and was living at home with her mom...in a trailer. She was very hot, extremely nice body and overall she was just a wonderful person with a great personality. Her mom was also nice, but she was "disabled" from a car accident (she could get around, but generally laid around the couch smoking all day).

They liked to shop at Big Lots (lower scale version of Walmart).

I went away to school, but a couple of years later when I was back in town she invited me over. Same trailer...but her mom had won a huge settlement with the insurance company. So, instead of buying a house...she took the money and filled the trailer with all sorts of crap that they bought from Big Lots and Wallmart.

I think its hard to escape the social class that you grew up in... I did it (we didnt live in a trailer but didnt have any money either)
...but most people just accept it and stay in that state of social class forever.

I went to the Monterey Historics one year and noticed people wearing straw hats, JC Crew blue blazers and khacki pants/skirts. Someone please enlighten me about that dress code. I thought it was the uniform signal for, "Look, I"m one of them" or something like that. Oh yes, I also noticed my share of grossly overweight people, not that it was too much different than the cross section of America waiting in line at Disneyland.

I think some folks with too much money and idle time and a lack of social consciousness fall into similar life style, world outlook perceptions. Some astute observer of the rich, after elbow rubbing to the point of being accepted, reported that wealthy wives often carry mail-order catalogs from Cartier and Tiffany's for browsing during their afternoon cocktail soires. Sorta like Grio's catalog in the glove box?

At the concours, I observed a woman, in fact several women, dressed head to toe in visibly autographed designer-ware; purse, sunglasses, embroidered logo jackets, ear rings, etc. It was..... YSL spectacular and enough to later comment to my spouse, "Nice cars, but maybe we should have gone to the racetrack".

You might think twice too if you knew how Walmart, Inc. squeezes their suppliers for the lowest price, pitting overworked sewing shops in 3rd world countries against each other for a few cents more profit. Unfortunately, those living on the edge have fewer choices in how they stretch their incomes, and Walmart allows them some degree of wiggle room.

MHO,
Sherwood

just got back myself.. needed Vodka and Steaks.. sad to say, but I was one of those low class, ignorant people standing in line just like all the others... only they looked much happier than me now that I know I'm one of them and what others think of the collective us. ignorance is bliss I suppose.

The thing I hate about Wal-mart is the Mexicans and blacks. When the Jews show up, it just gets worse.

can't speak for others (and rarely do), but I don't shop at Walmart due to their predatory business practices. There are certain companies that will not get my money, and Walmart is one of them.

What is also funny are the people who rail about losing jobs, outsourcing, the declining american way of life, etc, then they go down to Walmart to buy their crap, bypassing the small businesses along the drive. Reap what you sow...

Try reading Wal-Mart The Bully of Bentonville. My girlfriends 18 year old is working at Wal-Mart on X-mas day. He is getting time and a half for X-mas and Boxing Day.

We all have a right to spend our money wherever and however we want. You may not agree with Walmart's methods, but its business. And it's a business model that happens to work well in our current economy. Like it or not, you have to respect the implementation of a business strategy that thrives. This isn't the 1960's (lots of small mom and pop businesses) and it never will be. Our economy runs on a completely different set of criteria.

I understand that. But they also use unfair practices to force out competition. And also dictate business standards to suppliers. All very dangerous stuff.

People make their bed, then they have to sleep in it. If you shop at Walmart, don't bemoan the loss of worker benefits, or small business, or manufacturing in the US, or diversity in the supply chain, etc.

As for me, I'm learning Chinese. Walmart is helping to sell the US to them one piece of crap at a time. At least I'll be prepared when they own this country. Ni hao!

okay, I confess. not only do I shop at Walmart, but Family Dollar, Dollar General, Sams, Harbor Freight, order pool equipment online to save a few hundred dollars at times, call every rental place in town to find the cheapest price for equpment rentals, buy diesel at one truck stop because they give me points worth money for every gallon purchased, buy parts at Autozone for the lifetime warranty, would rather get my parts from the junk yard my friend owns rather than buying new whenever possible, etc., etc., I do my own repairs instead of supporting the local mechanics.. I even go to the movies on weekend afternoons since it's only $3.50 a ticket. If I save a few dollars getting what I need at Walmart instead of driving all over town to find the same thing for more... so what? some poor Chinese girl spent all day sewing for pennies to supply Walmart? at least she has a job.. better than a lot of Walmart customers. all they have are these plastic cards issued to them by govt.. no cash to flash.. now that's sad. anything else I need Walmart doesn't carry, I go to the regular mom and pop type stores that have all been bought out by large corporations. I'm just a cheap sob and shop where ever I can buy what I need at a lower price. I seldom need anything of quality, so Walmart junk is good enough for me usually. a gallon of milk from there for $1-2 cheaper tastes the same as the more expensive milk sold at the store across the street from my house. it's funny how I have nver met one person that has been adversly affected by Walmart opening up here.. in fact, I see all these elderly women having jobs, earning money and having a reason to get up in the morning working there. maybe one day I could get a job as a door greeter there.. nahhh, I really don't like having to smile at people I don't know and couldn't deal with people just like me all day.

despite my rhetoric, it isn't a black/white issue. Yes, Walmart provides certain opportunities. But at a cost.

I was talking with the head of emerging technologies at Pepsico a few months back. Not a small company. He was talking about being in the middle of a very expensive and complicated RFID implementation. One that they made for one reason, and one reason only: Walmart refused to do business with them unless they went RFID. Maybe that's "just business", but it is frightening that a single retailer can dictate business practices for other companies.

I donot mind the wellfare cases and trailer trash at the stores
what I donot like and the reason I willnot shop there
is their anti living wage stance, zero benefit, mostly parttime, anti union ideas
paired with the anti american forced exporting of jobs CORP policys they inforce on supplers and the effect they have on small towns killing older city centers and the mom and pop stores

in short wallmart is evil and is totaly anti american

damn... and I just back back from buying all those Walmart gift cards I was going to send you guys for Christmas. guess I'll just have to go buy more worthless low quality junk to finish filling up and decorating my trailer. luckily for me, Walmart is open 24 hours a day here so those underpaid abused Walmart workers can put in a few more hours and I can spend more money. Stupid mom and pop stores insist on closing at 5 and on weekends. I have to shop evil Walmart whether I want to or not since it's the only place open. I actually have no love for Walmart.. no feelings one way or the other really.. it's just a store that has most of what I need in one place for decent prices. if we had a Target, Kmart or whatever stores here you guys have there, I'd be shopping them also. this little town probably has less population than a couple square miles of your city.. we don't have many choices

Personally, I think the strict dress code at WalMart is a bit extreme. Apparently I'm not the only one.
