I thought about trying to see DarlyD's projects or visiting John Walker's shop, but in the end I was just too busy. We were visiting a relative who moved to West Seattle last year. Besides I was driving a V-6 Dodge Charger (oooh!) and wouldn't have wanted to be embarassed!
Had a good time though, saw the "Bodies" exhibit; did the touristy thing at Pike Market - hell, I even saw "Rocky Balboa" yesterday afternoon. I'm embarassed to say I liked it! Cold, wet, gray...and STILL fun.

Wow this thread is getting heavy
![]() One thing is the same all over the world, society has its dregs. Some of these have low or no income, some actually have very high incomes. They are frequently dirty, rude, obnoxious, unkempt. I prefer not to rub shoulders with them. It is inevitable that I will meet them when I shop at Walmart or it's equivalent, it doesn't mean I have to like it. I think it's important to make a distinction between these dregs and blue collar workers. I have the highest respect for anyone that works hard to make their living and especially so if they better themselves and their position. I believe that the future for many of our children, if they wish to succeed in life will be within the blue collar trades. I do not have any respect for dregs that sit in squalor and do nothing to take themselves out of it, letting the rest of us support them. I am sure these are the types this thread was laughing at. It's very true that things can change and we might find ourselves obliged to shop at Walmart. But even broke and penniless we can still afford good manners and an appreciation of style and the better things in life - culture for want of a better word. A poster mentioned rich ladies visiting his cabin with expensive presents. How is this different to a man visiting some trailer trash girl with a trinket in exchange for a roll in the hay? A "bit of rough" and a "roll in the gutter" may make for variety - Would you want to be seen in public with such? Only to show off one's latest pet I would imagine in most cases. Few would want to make a life with such ![]() Superiority and inferiority complexes can take many forms. I do not like seeing the affluent looking down on the poor but I also dislike the poor or those from humble origins criticising the well to do and cultured as pretentious and inferior to them, sometimes because they don't appreciate the lives they choose to live, sometimes because they have an inferiority complex which makes them aggresive in environments they feel uncomfortable with.

I was in Shenyang, China recently - they had a Walmart! Personally, I've never set foot in one, I try to avoid the big box type stores. Seems as if they enter an area with low prices to force out the smaller retailers and then their prices creep up over time. Walmart seems to be the worst of the bunch.

Well now that Isabo mentions it everybody is pretentsious and inferior to me...
There was a day when I would only drink Remy XO, McCallum 25 yearold, Johnny Blue Label and smoke only the finest Dominican and Honduran cigars..the Partagas 150, Macanando and R&J Special Reserves while I used to drive my Rolls Royce. Today after all the Hoopla is over I smoke Bundle Madaro cigars for $1.80 (Turano) and drink Trader Joes Single Malt (by McCallum) while I drive my Ford F150.
