sirius stiletto.....
as a little christmas gift to myself this year i just bought a Sirius Stiletto 100.
i was using a first gen kenwood plug and play piece which over the past couple years it has served it's duty but will now serve as a backup unit. this thing is pretty sweet, for portability you use the provided headphones which have the antenna built into it, it also comes with nice earbud earphones without an antenna. the nicest feature i think is if you're near a wireless internet source it'll get it's info from there so it'll work indoors (i think only music is available like this..) i have wireless at work so i'm set. i ordered a car kit too but won't have it for a few days. you can also download mp3's to it, i just downloaded about 65 songs (4 minute avg length each) and it shows i used 12% of the available 49% recording space for mp3's, it took about 20 minutes to tranfer the 65. there is an additional 2 gig to record brodcasted data..........hear a song i like and i hit one button and it'll record the song.....nice ![]() also comes with 2 batteries (one thick, one thin) a usb cable to connect to the computer and supporting software. anyone else get one or planning to? edit........another feature i like is that when you're scrooling through channels it lists what's playing on each channel before you change it

Sirius sounds nice EXCEPT for Howard Stern. It's actually kept me from considering a BMW since thats what it comes with. I guess I could always get it converted to XM.

my 3 month free subscription with Sirius ran out and I paid for a year. Never touched Stern. Not a plus or minus. Audio quailty isn't the best, but I can hear songs I've never heard before, and ones that I haven't heard for years (and turns out, want to hear again).

We bought my girlfriend's dad the Sirus S50 for his company car (we'll remove it when time comes). It's portable just like the S100. For $49 (+subscriptionof course) it came with the car kit and all the portable accessories. I think it has all the same features as the S100. It took about 15 minutes to install it and activate.
He travels a lot in his car so the thing should be useful. If the subscription rates wasn't so high (I think it is), I'd get one. But I'm too cheap, and my SLVR phone holds the tunes I want without me having to carry around one more piece of electronic gadget. Enjoy your present, Bell

Is the Stiletto the new one that receives live programming?
If so, Ill have to get that one. Ive had it in my car for over 3 years. It sounds fantastic, IMO... you need to get a Sirius ready receiver and not just the external box to really get the proper sound quality. |

Mongo have antenna on car... listen to radio for free... put shiny disk in hole in dash and make pretty noises... sometimes Mongo turn off radio and think to self.

Stern fans listen on an average of 1 hour a day to his show. Reason? Because they wanted to hear what he was going to say next. Stern haters listen to an average of 2.5 hours a day to the show. Reason? Because they wanted to know what he was going to say next. My dad HATES Stern for 2 reasons: 1. He was an Imus fan back when Imus was #1 in NYC. 2. He is very religious and thinks Stern is the Devil. I catch him starting to say something about the show all the time and catching himself and stopping. He knows I listen and gives me tons of grief over it. Besides.... Bubba is much funnier in my opinion. My new found favorite station is Buzzsaw.

I don't care much for Howard and I listen to him exactly zero hours a day. Not that I fault him for doing well, heck if people wanted to pay me millions of dollars to fart in their direction I would take the money. Don't listen to Rush either... I guess I don't get the whole talk show thing either way but more power to you if that floats your boat.

the s50 is now yesterdays technology, it's a nice piece, but has it's limitations. i had my headphones with the antenne on last night in the house (a one story house) and it was recieveing signal.....you can't see the imbedded antenne in the headphones so it doesn't look silly if you wear them in public ![]() i haven't found a pic of these headphones yet.....i'll take one tonite of mine if anyone is curious. here is a link to it http://shop.sirius.com/edealinv/servlet/ExecMacro?nurl=control/StoreItem.vm&ctl_nbr=2640&siId=2092697&catParentID=7877&scId=7877&oldParentID=

If you listen to the advertising that Sirius puts out (plus Sterns BS) you would think the stations 110% Stern 25 hours a day. Having him on one channel that I might "accidentally" hit is reason to avoid.

well he has 2 channels so you're screwed.........
hope you don't have indemand on your cable box....you may accidentally turn on howard. this isn't a "i don't like howard so sirius sucks" thread, it is about a great piece of technology, so take your anti-howard crap somewhere else please. back on topic..... on my "faster" computer it just took 8 minutes to rip a cd then 5 minutes to transfer it to the stiletto, it can work faster with a high speed usb port which i do not have. i've played with lots of ipods, the functionality with the menus and such are similar, you can't fit 80gb of mp3's on the stiletto, but having it built into the tuner is very nice.....i'm loading it up to see how many actual cd's i can fit on it. more to come

my station of choice is ALT nation. i hear music that makes me go, "wow, who the heck is that?"
and that is the reason i want the stiletto. i could build up a music library by downloading the song. for traffic jams, i listen to comedy. raw dog. you cant get pissed when you are laughing. for my morning commute i listen to the devil. he cracks me up. he is the original reality show.

I looked at the Stiletto last night at Best Buy. Its $349 right now, so Im going to wait a few months until it starts to come down.
Ive had Sirius for over 3 years now, in both my 911 and the 993. Love it. Definitely worth $13 per month, but you have to enjoy music, talk, comedy, shows etc... + drive enough to appreciate it. Here in LA, you definitely will drive enough to appreciate it + you dont have to listen to the Mexican Polka on the local radio stations. |

I would respond but unfortunately that would veer off topic.
