I should be SHOT. I went to Walmart
I needed two little things so my daughter and I went to Walmart last night. Two days before Christmas! We really should have just turned around and walked out but it was like a train wreck. We just had to stay and watch.
A few observations: -Why do people have to bring three or four generations of thier family to go shopping? -Why do people buy cheap junk they don't need nor can afford? -Why are most people too fat or too skinny? -Why do women were clothes that are three sizes too small? -Why don't people go to the dentist? -How can someone gain 350 pounds in the first 25 years of thier life? -Does a two year old boy really need to wear a gold braclet? -Do women really need to spend thier money on that tat on thier foot or those fake nails? I really think there is a segment of the population that seems to have been brainwashed into buying crap they can't afford and don't need. They must spend every dime they earn and never think about next week. I told my wife if I ever say I'm going to Walmart again to remind me of this trip. I will NEVER go back. |

The people you are referring to are the ones you read about that are 60 to 70 years old and piss and moan how they have nothing to retire on and someone owes us something. I agree on your observation on people buying crap, I guess they are stocking up for the next yard sale. I believe for most of these folks the 10th grade was the best 3 years of their life!!

You just met with the left segment of the IQ bell curve. Shocking, ain`t it ?
I personally prefer to avoid them at any cost. Hence, you will rarely see me in any type of crowd. Aurel

I was in a local Wal-Mart (in Florida) about 2 or 3 years ago. We were in the checkout line and there was a couple behind us that was having a discussion of some sort. The boyfriend/husband looser was upset about something I wasn't realy paying attention to what they were saying I just noticed they were going back and forth.
Suddenly he raised his voice (when he should have whispered if he was smart but he was not) and says to her shut the EFF up or I'll punch you in the face. That perked me up, I spun around and stared him straight in he face, my wife grabbed my arm then I went throught the scenerio in my head in about a second. 1. my then 10 y/o son was there and didn't need to see daddy in a fight in Wal-mart. 2. Lets pretend I kicked his arse for being a bully to girls, the Girlfriend/wife would have gotten it tenfold later on for my actions. I looked around at the other cahiers and other patrons and everyone was deaf and blind not noticing anything out place. I have avoided Walmart like the plague after that... until we bought our vacation home in North Carolina. A lot of the time we are out at 11 at night doing some shopping and everything else is closed. I have to admit there is the trashy element here but no where as bad as Florida. Western Carolina University is up the road to the place is usually packed with hot 19-23 year old girls. They tend to wear 3 sizes too small as well but I don't mind so much.

BTW - Since this house is our vacation house, I have to admit Wal-Mart has been handy. We have tried to shop at the local places as much as possible but a purchase like a TV made Walmart perfect.
This is our vacation home so TV is not supposed to be important, lots of board games for the evening and outdoor activities are the priority. So when I set out for a TV I was at first, seeking a 32" LCD for over the fire place setting me back an easy $1000. Then I caught myself and bought a Sanyo 24" tube TV to fit an amoir we have in the living room for $150. Perfect. We picked up a DVD player on an open box sale at Big Lots for $25 and now we have everything we need. Can I afford more? Hell yeah but it was not important to me its only for rainy days when we are sick of board games and just want to veg. That said, there is a segmant that you speak of there but there are also some in there that just want to be frugal and there is nothing wrong with frugal.

I know what you mean. I go to Walmart on a daily basis, sometimes a couple times a day for water, food, things I need for my job. I look at all the idiots there and wonder where do these people come from.. then... I look down and see my muddy old work clothes, wet nasty shoes, my shoulder length wind blown hair, etc.. and realize they probably are thinking the same thing about me. that I know a lot of these people. that I am one of these people.. there goes my false sense of superiority.. shot down and humbled at the same time. it's just a store. what would make me feel I'm smarter, better, superior to everyone else that shops there. Walmart just happens to be the the biggest, closest, onestop shopping in this little town. maybe I should start driving an extra 20-40 miles to shop so I don't have to deal with these insignificant ignorant people. nahhh, then the better people at the better stores would look at me thinking I'm not worthy to shop at THEIR kind of place.

And these people vote. This is why we have some of the gov programs, to keep folks like this in front of the tv and full of beer and cheese whiz.
I have been to Wal-Mart once, that is enough for 10 lifetimes. |

It really is some kind of phenomenon, isn't it? In my daily life, most of the people I encounter are sane and reasonable. Sure, given my neighborhood and where I work, I have to deal with a lot of SUV-driving snobs with entitlement issues... but for the most part they are pretty normal people.
Wal*Mart, however, seems a whole different world. I have no idea where these people come from - I certainly don't see them on a daily basis. The best way to describe a Wal*Mart crowd, IMHO, is "this is what Europe thinks America is". And johnco, it isn't a class thing, it's a situation of behavior. I have never seen people act like the people in Wal*Mart every time I've been there. It seems like a segment of the population that I rarely see - kids running wild through the aisles, fat girls wearing tight clothes, daughters dressed wayyyy too slutty for their age, young boys swearing right to their parents' face. Where the hell do these people come from?!?

I have never shopped in a Walmart and I don't plan to. KMart is the same thing... great place to see some inbred trash beat their kids in public. Pretty disgusting...

So, everyone here thinks they're "better" than the people that shop at Walmart? But everyone here has been to Walmart...ao how does THAT pencil out?
oone here has ever shopped with a member of their family? All of us "need" and can "afford" not only our 911's but the little Porsche key fob, the brake disc on the key chain, the "special" pedals without which our cars are undriveable! None of us is a bit to fat or skinny? C'mon guys....like it or not, Walmart is a cross section of all of us. You don't have to like it but pretending you're better than "they" are?

You know, Europe isn't all that much better. Go check out a Tesco in the UK sometime, or go to a pub during a football match. Or ask just about anyone in the EU about gypsys.
Every nation has its underclass. That said, the Walmart you just described could have been any store or mall in the greater Detroit area. I'm home for the holidays from CA and dayam, folks around here have really let themselves go. Happy Holidays
