Chris, did you get any interesting questions/comments on your car... people who did a doubletake... "Hey, I almost didn't notice that your car's roof has been lowered!"... or stuff like that? Or from people who had heard about it from back in the day, but had never actually seen it?

Congrats on the ribbon, BTW... what took first in that category?

Porsche Crest Greystone

Here's just a few more choice Porsches to enjoy seeing.

Beautiful paint! Many cars like this one.

I spoke to this man for some time. He had just finished a full restoration of his 1973 911S and it looked AWESOME!!!
He told me how and where the car was brought to this fantastic condition. Nice story.

The day was made more fun due to the nice folks that attended the event. All were very friendly and cordial, and loved to talk Porsche.

The motor of his 911S looked incredible, like showroom condition, or better.
Unfortunatly, he didn't win his class.

I stood near as the judges went over his car and Oh Boy, they were nitpicky. No stone unturned must be their motto.
For example, a judge reached around the back of the engine and fondled the back of the shock towers down low. Of course it's dirty there.

They must expect you to wipe every bit of your car off, everywhere!

Many full restored 356's were on hand, some were beyond reality how nice they were.
Even some of the old guys who are well known Porsche 356/911 restorers were on hand to answer questions and explain how things are done. Interesting.

This 1970 911E has to be the nicest example of it's kind. Everything perfect, down to being so clean it won it's class easily.
The owner of this car told me that 3 different oranges were offered by Porsche. This is an example of Porsche's Tangerine color. (looks Persimmon to me)

When this car left the event, the engine barked like a race engine. It sounded very impressive. Don't laugh, these old beaters can haul if prepped correctly.

A lot of people had seen the Excellence article and recognized the car.

While standing around the courtyard with a couple of friends, we could occasionally overhear someone say, "that's the Mulholland car" or similar words.
That was kind of a kick overhearing some comments during the day.

This was the first time the Carrera has ever been shown at a public venue in over 33 years and it was enjoyable.
Written comments from the judges were, "Nice Car", "Thank you for showing", "Fantastic Car, love the fact you brought it out to share, love it!"

Those comments meant a lot.

This is the first place winner in my class and it looked impeccable. Absolutely no flaws and clean as a whistle. It fully deserved first place.

It was very hot in the courtyard when Jane and I posed for this photo at the end of the day.

We made it home in record time

Great photos. Thanks for posting.

Your comment and photos brought to mind a ride I had in the 904 of a friend of mine who lives in Milan. This was a few years ago, but he was going to Bologna and offered to take me along. There was some kind of jam on the autostrada and we were in bumper to bumper traffic for about three hours at something close to 45 degrees centigrade.

I think I lost about 5 pounds on that short trip. The 904 has to be one of the absolutely most unpleasant cars to take out on a hot day. Lots of glass, claustrophobic and zero ventilation.

Y'all didn't prop the doors part way open?

Heh, heh. That was meant for Dottore. That 904 wouldn't have been as much of a sauna while in bumper-to-bumper traffic if they'd propped the doors open 4-5 inches.

It's sorta like the old racers' trick of driving from the paddock to the grid with one hand on the wheel and the other hand holding the door open a bit.

Gonna be moving this weekend. Anyone wanna come over afterwards (say maybe noontime tomorrow) and move a couple boxes? I've already got the heavy stuff out of the way.

Don't know if I'll make it. Gotta pack, as we've got a deadline to get out of here by the end of the weekend. And I'd come via motorcycle (parking's easier), but my wife, in a fit of packing frenzy, managed to pack away the keys to the bike and the 911.

Last night was a blast! So many awesome cars and awesome babes.
Nice seeing you Derek and Chris. Nick, Steve, Dave S., Jane and myself ate there at 6 and it wasn't that crowded, we got seated right away.

Along with all the classic cars, american muscle, and bikes, there was some very unusual rides there. Derek and Chris, did you see the amphibious car? Or the 620 horsepower Impala with the exhaust coming out of the sides, wow! How about that tall thin blonde with the see thru top with hi beams ON? Unreal!

When we left, a guy with a super long (12 feet) VW powered trike took my parking spot.

Some poor Dude, parked his Harley in the handycapped spot and got a knarly ticket. Good thing his bike didn't get towed.

Later, a 1955 Highway Patrol car pulled in and used it's siren. The cops in attendance looked upset and got up and folded their arms. When they saw that the car was dedicated to fallen officers, they immediately relaxed.

Lots of cars like these makes going to Bobs a real fun thing to do.
I had to take Laurel Canyon home due to the problems on Coldwater.
The Racecourse was empty... that is except for an old Camino and a fast BMW (I just love throwing sparks, especially at Beemers on Mul, heh, heh)
