that could never happen this days. We would spent countless hours figuring out classes for everybody (so we can all go home with coasters)......and then there's BRI.....

That's funny, but it's a total spoof... just for laughs, right?

"Residents will provide warning light sequences and remote driveways for your convenience"?

"No more police blockades!"?

"...both lanes will be used"?

Haha! BTW, I have an extra coaster or two if you want to complete your set without going through all of the trouble!

PS - did everything work out with the tire "issue" on the big Porsche?

I might take you up on the coasters offer - I'm running low on cash on my home construction so I thought I'd tile my bathroom with 1'st place coasters. I might need a couple more to finish it..

Don't recall any tire issues!

Oh, I didn't know you wanted 1st place coasters. I'll have to look around and see what I can do. Glad to hear the tire issue is a myth.

Porsche Crest Flyer

I saw you know Chris Banning and participate in the Pelican Parts RSR King of the Hill discussion group. When I was a teenager, I used to hang out on Mulholland and remember Chris’ Porsche up there late at night. Anyway, I was cleaning out my den to do some remodeling and I thought you might appreciate this old flyer from about 1982 that we put on cars around Mulholland. I submitted it to Chris’ board too, but it hasn’t been posted yet."

Well now it has.
Chris..Do you remember this?
This is one that I havn't seen before. However it states that it is from the MRA era which means it's from about 1970 and before.

By 1982 the MRA was gone, the CRE was gone, the TVL was gone... only the ACR and the SCCRA were still remaining on Mulholland and competing/hanging out in the Racecourse. Within four years the cops had successfully chased everyone out and by 1986 the last die-hard racer named Chuck Turner finally gave up the ghost and stopped hanging at Grandstands. (He got tired of retrieving his car at police impound every night) Bless his soul.

Lot's more great stories here but they will be saved for the next book which will be re-started next week.
Driveway done, Carrera done, Corvair Pickup almost done, garden re-located, and house repaired...whew!
Next is the new book on Mulholland, the windturbine (www.windturbinesales.com), the 911 Ghia, the '73 911S and the repair of the 4 El Caminos (1960 Impala El Camino, 1970 SS center console 4 speed, 1973 SS350 with flames, and the grey SS option 1986).
I feel fortunate to have so full a plate...lol

This just in...

got an e-mail this morning explaining the origin of that flyer -

I saw Chris’ response to the flayer last night. Tell him I think Gary Hendrickson was the person that put it together. Gary was a long time character on Mulholland. I think he was at Chris’ book signing at the Petersen Museum. The MRA and references to a light system and ‘Mathematical System’ were evidence of Gary’s dry humor to throw the police (and now historians) off to the origination of the flayer. At the time, it was all a hoax, there were no cash prizes or helpful neighbors.

It was interesting Chris mentioned Chuck Turner. His father was the editor of either ‘The Hollywood Reporter’ or ‘Variety’. I worked with Chuck at a Mobil Gas Station at Coldwater and Ventura for a while when I was in high school/college. Chuck now lives in Hawaii and is a freelance photographer for Penthouse. Some guys get all the breaks. ;-)

unsafe pass

Good example of an unsafe pass.

This little doozy happened on May 2 of this year during the second Formula 2 race at the Marrakech Street Circuit. The camera is onboard Paul Rees’ car, when the car of Ricardo Teixeira takes a flying leap from behind.

It was a frightening and spectacular crash indeed, and Teixeira, fortunately, was uninjured in the accident.

Check out the video below, and keep your eye on the rear-view camera.

In a surprise twist of fate as I was leaving VNY this afternoon, I was approached by a pretty hot blonde (color was probably fake). I'm not sure I caught it at first, but she asked if I knew about Elite Aviation's FBO and how to get in as she was to (I thought) pick up none other than Charlie Sheen.... After talking for about 15 minutes or so, it became apparent that she was not there to pick him up, but rather was paparazzi.... By the card I was handed by another guy there, I am guessing they worked for Star Magazine. We parted ways, but as I was driving down Havenhurst, who pulls out of another gate in a limo.. Charlie Sheen. Sooooo.....

Here's his limo leaving. I then called the number on the card and told them he was behind me.... I tell them we are both turning left onto Sherman Way at that point. I hang up the phone and moments later a callback... It's the paps and they're right behind me and now the limo is on my right. Interesting afternoon.

Before we all left, I mentioned that there was a sign on Mulholland with the name "Sheen Ravine"... I still had a pic on my iPhone, so I whipped it out and we all gt a laugh out of it.

You've got quite the following, Chris Banning....

"IT'S ALIVE!!! I've been waiting anxiously for the moment the link would appear on the thread. Been reading from page 1. I'm currently on page 204.

Greetings from Puerto Rico. "

Show up in the urban camouflage. I won't be in any supercar, either.
