Three years ago, I found a 911 for sale in Ontario.
I had been following your "King of Mul" thread and really enjoyed it.
Anyway, after finding a great car to buy I bought it and decided to drive it back
to Sacramento.
The owner couldn't believe I was just getting in it after we transfered title and took off for a 6 hr drive to northern Calif. He kept it as a garage queen.

I stopped somewhere near the entrance road to Mul. drive and thought.
"Man, after all that Banning thread, I got to go up there."
I didn't. My mistake.
My bucket list has that famous road on it. In my Carrera of course.

You know how work around all the immature banter and I applaud you for it.
Much success in you future book.
Don

Thank you Don for your kind comments.
Very cool to drive a car you just bought a long distance, that takes courage, even if it is a Porsche 911.
Hope to see you and your 911 on Mulholland someday.

I remember an early Camaro going over around 1981, Carls turn I believe.

It stuck with me because I also had a blue 67 Camaro that I ran on Mul.

Glad you both walked away with no injuries.

We lost a lot of cars in that turn, probably over 100 over the years.

Hey everyone!

Banning took the picture of me scraping the gunk off the floor of the 911. I used to run Mulholland in a teal blue 2002 Miata with koni yellows and aftermarket sway bars on sticky tires and 9lb wheels. I got into karting for a while and now have a 1993 white Miata with a bunch of suspension work and a few other modifications as well. It only makes 90-100whp but is a lot of fun downhill.

It's been a real pleasure to meet Chris (who I used to try and chase down, not knowing he was on a completely different part of Mulholland). I've been following the thread for a long time and have been enjoying the stories.

Spike TV recently came out with a documentary about Steve McQueen and there was a story about Bruce Lee being scared by McQueen in his 911 on Mul. I was wondering how fast McQueen was on Mul and if anyone here ran into him or raced him on The Hill.

Wolfman and LA area T70 circa 1971

One of them used to store cars at John Schneider's (Dukes of Hazzard) shop over at Riverside and Pass.

So I'm very late to this party, but word about this excellent thread has now reached Bristol in the UK, I have been reading about a chap called 'Wolfman' who had a Lola T70 in the LA area around 1971.

The name I have seen in connection with Wolfman is Mike Bohannon, I have also seen a thread on another forum about a chap who's father was called Mike Bohannon who was Corvette crazy, Corvette Crazy Mike moved onto and passed away in the Carolinas.

Having stumbled on the quoted information above I am wondering if any one can confirm that the chap mentioned in Jeff Hails quote with the T70 was John or Mike Bohannon and does anyone know what happened to Wolfman's royal blue T70 ?

Thanking you in anticipation.

This thread is going to grow legs again.

Two different Mike Bohannons.

The one that had the ex Penske T70 is still alive and in Southern California. Have no idea what happened to his Lola.

Lola T 70 coupe dark blue with an AIR race stripe across the nose? Long haired guy driving around that looked a lot like Alice Cooper? Never seen it (HAH)

Dan Mc Gloughlin took one of the ex George Lucas THX 1138 Lolas, got friendly with James Garner and painted the car dark blue with the American International Racing logo painted across the bow. Drove the car and got it legalized/registered for the street. Sold it to Stan, who drove it for a while, then loaned it to a friend that forgot the fuel pump system while sporting around..... Woof ! flamed to the ground. Dunno if it ever got "rebuilt" as the damage was quite extensive

Mike Bohanon had a silver T160 coupe (looks like a T 70) with red center stripe, that he would drive on the street. One of his circle had the ex Penske T 70 too

Art Tidesco 01-14-2015 01:39 PM

Jeff and TRE Cup thanks for your responses.

Glad to have confirmed that there were two Mike Bohannons one Corvette Crazy the other Wolfman, described as large and hairy, so I am guessing Wolf like in appearance, who had the ex Penske car.

Some of the stuff I have read about the Penske T70 includes the possibility of it belonging 'covertly' to the LAPD, but no one seems to have heard of or seen it since the mid to late 1970's.

Would anyone one reading this be able to help me get in touch with Wolfman Mike Bohannon so that I can find out what became of the Penske T70 ?

I understand that Dan's T70 has 'returned' to the UK.

Does the silver T160 coupe mentioned by TRE Cup possibly have any connection with the T165/T70 coupé on this link :- CULT Sports Cars - Lola T165/T70 - Custom Build - 1983

or is that a completely different car ?

I'm not at home at the moment so apologies for slow responses working with an old skool laptop that is losing it's buttons.

As the dusty crypt door opens once again to the Bonzai chapter way back machine the names remain the same. Ed Bohanon, Mike Bohanon, Jajonski, Ward, Agapiou Brothers,The Sannett Brothers, McLoughlin ,Phil Henry etc.

Mike did actually have a T70. Its was a documented one bought from Penske after sudden theft in Florida.

These guys had balls.

Our resident AIR velox Kevin dug up another one way back. The Garner car was the THX car that ended up in Wards hands then McLoughlins hands , then Eddie Hill ( his honeymoon ride to boot) and on to a new owner.

T70's changed hands so many times it makes it seem like Lola produced far more than actually were made.

Gotta love all this underground So Cal Gran Prix business. Keeps everything in perspective all this crazy legend stuff was actually real.

To think someone would actually drive a race car on the street (wink)

The Road and Track car was purchased by the Sannett brothers after the article was published. They lived on the south side of Beverly Glen, just a few miles from "the course"

Some things you have to see to believe.

Then Steve Sannett got in trouble with the usgov selling radios to the Iranians in the 1980s. Ooops.

His brother was Rick if I remember. The team was Aero something? Dick Ferguson drove for them. They had Penske deals which explains the Lola connections then they had a Interscope/ Panasonic deal If I'm right. I'm not that old but that was a long time ago. Makes my brain hurt.

Art,

Check this out. Maybe you can track what your looking for by chassis/ owner history.

http://www.wsrp.cz/chassis/chassis_lola_t70.html

Jeff Hail 01-15-2015 10:00 AM

A little digging.

Dan Haggertys Lola was chassis SL72/37, wife Diane got it as part of the divorce settlement.

Original owner was John Mecum and then Thomas Richardson (1970s) Giuseppi Santa Cesa (1975) Dan Hagerty (1977) awarded to Dianne Haggerty (Divorce Settlement) (1984) George Valerio (1985) Chuck Haines (1985) Peter Kaus Rosso Bianco Museum, D (1986) Keith Newcombe (2006~2010)

'X' prototype (thus SL72 chassis number prefix). In 1976 rebuilt as Mk.3 coupé and still retained in this form (by 2008). As 09/2010 rebuilt back to a spyder with the 7L engine as when Andretti had it.

Glad you said it. Wasn't sure if I wanted to share all the details. (Especially how Diane had the car out of the country before Haggerty knew it wasn't in the garage at home.

"As the dusty crypt door opens once again" never thought of my self as a crypt kicker SmileWavy

Jeff thanks for the information on SL72/37 and for the fabulous pics of SL73/117 from Eddie Hill's wedding, I has heard of these, but never seen them before a real OMG ! moment for me

There is indeed mention of the fate of Wolfmans ex Penske SL76/139 in the link however no mention of the car in street spec or Wolfman's ownership, infact no details of it's story between leaving Penske and arriving with currently listed owner Jim Landrum.

They lived off of San Ysidro(just south of where Beverly Park is now) remember that car well, also Salt Walther had a Lola around the same time- he used to cruise it up and down Benedict Cyn routinely.

Beautiful evening for a run out on Mulholland West tonight. Very clean, in spite of today's rain.

Baby deer and rabbits. Fortunately didn't hit any tonight.
