This was Rich's response to my Email:

Chris:

Do you still have my edited version of your book? Your book was great and would have already been a wonderful success except for the editing. I think you learned that lesson the hard way.

I love some of the history (the cowboys and Indians and oil stuff, LOL, but it’s not necessary for the book. However the history of the name Mulholland is significant as is much, but not all, of the background on the other main character, you. Ha ha.

I look forward to helping you on it if you desire my assistance. I think it would be FUN.

Rich

Well Chris..

13 years later and 356 pages ( 1,365,094 views) of history we are ready for Chapter 2 of " What Happened to the Mulholland King of the Hill RSR".

May I suggest to include the "Water Heater Races"?

Happy new year my friend. To another century!

Thank you Jeff. Let's make 2020 a great year and finish some of our projects.
During the past year I have been assembling the parts to complete the Targa.
It has been patiently waiting for me while still covered.

Here is a recent photo of the Targa which I have officially named Mulholland Targa or just simply "Targa".

Mulholland Targa Update

Here is a rear view showing the 1973 911 outfitted with Steel Carrera RSR Flares.
I've already converted the Targa Doors to Coupe Doors as you can see.
Windshield, doors, and Quarter windows fit well thank goodness.
Before I complete glass installation, I want to dress up the Cowl Frame and fix some items on the Roll Cage.

I see I can't edit those, to reload them. Thank sucks, if anyone wants to see those.

I am still hoping the video game guys do both Mulholland and Turnbull Canyon Raceway

We did Turnbull, Mulholland is underway.

Mulholland Targa Update

Before any more work is undertaken, I need to fix two things with the Rollcage.
First, the base of the A-Pillar Rollcage Mount has to be boxed in correctly and the bend above it must be replaced with a smooth Mandrel Bend like the rest of the Cage has.

After making a pattern in Cardboard, it was transferred to 120 guage Plate.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1580926780.jpg

It's important to fit the metal pieces together using a metal file and some patience.
When fit is correctly done, it is a much easier job to MIG Weld them in.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1580926964.jpg

After Welding, I like to soft chisel the area to remove Slag and excess metal.
Then it's important to fully sand the area to prepare it for Paint.
Here is how it looks completed. Both sides are now done.

Mulholland Targa Update

Here are the unsightly Bends in the Rollcage A-Pillars that must be replaced with good ones. Using a Skil Saw with a Metal cutting Blade, they were removed.
Sorry 2 of these photos are on their side, it's how they downloaded.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1580927760.jpg

I will have these Bends duplicated by the Tubing Bender and weld them back in.
This will not be as strong as if it were a solid piece but it is important to remedy.
I can live with it since this is not the Porsche Racewerk Factory, it's just an Old Dude working in his backyard on Mulholland.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1580927940.jpg

Note the Metal filings that ring the cuts like a Halo

Mulholland Targa Update

During the past year I have been slowly getting all the parts to complete the Car.
I discovered some very nice Wheels that are Replica Fuchs.
Made by Maxilite and they seem to be of surprisingly good quality.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1582482181.jpg

I bought 2- 15"x9" and 2- 15"x11" Wheels.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1582482324.jpg

I may paint the Daisy's Silver to make it look more like a 1973 Car.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1582482444.jpg

They should fill in the Steel Fender Flares perfectly.

Mulholland Targa Update

I also located a Pair of quite nice Racing Seats that say Recaro on them.
Obviously Fake but very reasonable at just over $500.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1582482837.jpg

I'm building this on a budget so I've bought used parts as well like Glass, Hood, Deck Lid, Wiring, Gas Tank, Dash Pad, Gauges, Turn Signal Housings, and of course the Coupe Roof.

Mulholland Targa Update

I found an Original 1973 Rear Decklid and an Original 1973 Front Hood.
Took them immediately to get Acid Dipped at L&M Strippers in Van Nuys because they were painted different colors over the years. Traces of Bondo was visible.
Here is the Decklid after Acid Dippiing.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1582483748.jpg

Someone had used a Heavy Grinder with 12 grit on this Decklid in the past.
Notice the deep grinding marks left by the Expert Body Technician.
As I worked on it I wondered who would take an aggressive Grinder to a Beautiful Porsche.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1582483823.jpg

After a lot of Block sanding and Wire Wheeling and more Primering here is what is looks like now. There is a slight depressing on the bottom edge that I will have to fill.

Update Continued

For now I'm keeping the Targa outside while I complete it.
I have an interior Garage that is inside the House where I keep The Carrera and the 1973 Porsche Coupe that my mom and I ordered from Porsche in October of 1972.
I drove it for about a year and then my mom drove it until 1993. Then she gifted me the car and I have driven it since then.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1582485193.jpg

Originally a 1973 911T with the "S" Suspension, Trim and Appearance Group Options. I asked my old Boss, Vince Paritzek at AE German Car Service to convert the Engine to 911S.
I was too busy in College getting my Geology Degree to do any major Car work at that time.

Haven't been around these parts in a while. Glad to see you're back on the Targa build, Chris. How many El Caminos you got up there now? :D

Anyway... Mul content. A few days ago I was up in the race course with the photographer Andy Tipping doing a photo shoot and article for Classic Porsche Magazine UK. No idea when/if the article will be out, but I'll post here when it does.

A couple of my behind-the-scenes pics from the "guerrilla" shoot.

Banning, if you need a very slightly used front windshield rubber for your targa-to-coupe conversion, let me know. I had it in my car for maybe 3 years.

Thank you Darek, I had too many distractions for awhile. Now back at it.
I sold the 1960 and 1986 El Caminos a few years ago. Last year I sold the Black 1970 El Camino that I had painted Burnout Blue. Still have the 1973 SS and the 1971 4x4 El Caminos.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1582566899.jpg

Glad you got together with Andy. I have not been able to meet up with him yet since The Carrera still needs a Rear Main Seal. Looks like it was a nice day for Photography.

Thank you Alerek, nice of you to offer, the one that I have is very used. I could use a replacement soon when I install the Glass in the Targa.

Btw here is one of the other Car Projects that I'm working on.
Does anyone know what it is?
