Yes that is my photo. I shot it the Thursday before the Historics. That's when they do all the staged group shots. The 917 shot was staged by John Lamm. I happened to be in the right place at the right time and was allowed my turn up on the ladder. Just before the 917 shot I took this shot...... http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/1...milyed1bv8.jpg A lot of my stuff that year was run in the British mag Porsche and 911 World, although they paid like crap. I've been shooting cars and racing for 30+ years now, although not much for the last 5 years or so. I'd like a turn in the 917K, either the Gulf car or the Porsche Salzburg car. I have a thing for the 917K, probably from watching Lemans too many times. Cheers, Kurt O. |
that is an amazing picture.

Founder of Services at Our Lady of Mulholland passed away
Not sure if any of you ever met Howard Dranow. He was a long time member of the POC. He helped put together the 2005 West Coast Classic, goes on virtually every drive/event, etc. He's the "fearless leader" of the weekend tours through roads above Malibu which he calls his "Services at Our Lady of Mulholland."
Howard had a blood vessel break in his brain a couple of weeks ago and was hospitalized. Howard passed away today. Since Howard kept Mulholland alive on the "west side" he deserves credit. He was one of us just on a different stretch of the mountain. Life is short and Howard knew how to have fun. Here is a video Howard made . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KoolRqzEm_I God speed. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1186293667.jpg |
A couple of us knew Howard. There are a couple of threads in OT. It was a shock to learn about his passing, especially since there had been encouraging news.

Any thoughts of getting together tonight? or tomorrow?

We have achieved cult status
"Cult:refers to a cohesive social group devoted to beliefs or practices that the surrounding culture considers outside the mainstream, with a notably positive and popular perception"
Gentlemen, The "What Happened" thread has officially achieved cult status. As of 1-8-2007 when Derek started what has become a truely enormous account of all things Mulholland. We have: 106,375 views with a whopping 1,650 replies with a 5 star rating amongst the 911 Tech Forum. At Le Mans they would refer to this as a 3/1 finish and we are not done yet! (although it's been a little quiet the past weeks) The stats above do not include the popular "Mulholland Run and Radu's Porsche on the Streets of LA" threads which have branched off. Those stats are simply a number yet reflect something historic. Close behind is the 3.9 RSR Project thread which began on 1-9-2006: 199,425 views and 1002 replies but only a 4 star rating. Great thread but nothing like our pit. A story and visual adaptation has been told here of epic proportions found no where else on the internet about our road. A book was written and another one is in process. A lot of input from many directions has culminated here. To many of us here the driver history of Mulholland Drive is important. Both yesterday and today. I am not any of the first but in fact one of the last of the regulars of an era gone by. It is important that the stories have been told and an official record exists because one day we will all be gone. Some of us have a long held attachment to the Drive and wondered if its record may be lost? We know now it will endure in many forms. My personal thanks to all of the contributors, and visitors of this thread. I have met some good people along the way and shared some good times. I look forward to more. For me it has exceeded my expectations by miles. I have had fun. A special thanks to the folks at Pelican Parts for sharing a little corner of cyber space on Mulholland Drive. PS Derek (lfot) has now clarified via his avatar that it is actually pronounced "el-eff-oh-tee" which now has me more confused than ever. It's not left foot Chris!!!!!!!!! Thanks Derek for getting this party started which some much needed go-go juice! We even have a mascot named Bentley. Too cool. Who would have ever thought? Hope to see you guys soon..... |

Hollywood and Mulholland
Locations shot's from the 1963 classic Its a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World.
Great flick. If you have not seen it get a copy. Highly recommended. Mulholland Hwy and Las Virgenes Road before the big white fence was installed. I actually had an interesting shunt at this same location. It involved a car , physics and gravity. Was ugly. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1186681430.jpg Valley Circle overpass at the 101 http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1186681550.jpg |
