I heard on the news today the death toll in N.O. so far this month has surpassed the death toll for U.S. soldiers in Iraq.

Sure, it's a young January, but nonetheless a strange statistic.

NOLA should not be rebuilt. It will get hit again. I heard a radio commentator a while ago say that in 500 yrs. we will have tours to visit the ruins of cities like NOLA and SF, which were built where no city should have been built.

The population of the combat troops in Iraq is no more than 28,000, 135,000 adding in the support troops; the population of New Orleans is over 484,000 within the city limits, 1.2 million in the metropolitan statistical area.
