Don't know how it happened but that 944 looked like a clean, well cared for one. Guaranteed that no way the owner gets remotely the value out of it from the insurance that he would have gotten in enjoyment from having it and keeping it that nice. Too, too bad.

One 16 second ad, then the news story. Weird, weird accident.

I have a friend who while diving his 968 home, had a tree fall on it.

The news station I was watching referred to it as a $80,000 mistake. Ummmm, it wasn't THAT nice of a 944.

The 944 I bought came with most of a second one that a tree had fallen on.

Perhaps trees have something against 944's and their successors?

I can't see any likely way, from watching the video, that the truck could have ended up in that position. It looks as though there are things on either side of the driveway that it would have hit before.

Whew... Boy are we lucky that tree didn't fall on PWDs 72 911S.

But WHY OH WHY couldn't that tree have fallen on Jackie Os BB2...

Could it have been a 924 Carrera GTR?

Looks to me like the driver of the tree trimming truck forgot to set the parking brake before he got out. Sad to see, but at least it wasn't a 930...

No, it was our local idiot NBC station. The footage zoomed in close enough to see that it had a 944 badge on the rear, no sign of Turbo or S2. It did appear to have a turbo/S2 body kit, and the correct wheels for a later turbo or S2.

It's amazing how little homework goes into sensationalistic "news and notes" stories like this. They hear "Porsche" and immediately assume it's a brand new model.

I remember one of those "Craziest Police Chases" shows on FOX; the perp stole his boss's pre-impact bumper 911 and proceeded to attempt to allude the police. The narrator for the show kept ranting about the "Porsche's powerful turbocharged engine". Talk about not doing your homework!

Maybe $80k is what the owner said it was "worth" for the insurance claim.

I remember that one too. Guy actually did elude them for a while, lifted on an on-ramp, spun out and continued. Got away again and if I recall, he ended up colliding with another vehicle at an intersection.

I'd love to find that video. Anybody out there have it??
