The Great So. Cal. Blizzard of 07

We awoke to an amazing storm here in Southern California. We were very concerned about traveling in this stuff. We could really sympathize with the Colorado Pelicans. Here are some photos:

It's a good thing we have 2 cars with four wheel drive!

Euclid Blvd. - many feared being stranded along this route.

In So Cal I think we have it esp. hard just trying to talk on the phone, hold our lattes and take straight photos. Not to mention steering!

Our Madonna of the Trail gets a little frosted!

I sure hope no one gets stuck at ONT. Who knows when they'll be able to get a flight. Will probably have to wait until Saturday to take out the Targa!

Don't worry, we'll be praying for your safety. (From KS, where we're expecting 1" of ice, with snow on top, high in the 20s with a 40 MPH N wind)

We didn't get any snow or rain in Orange, but it was COLD! BRRRRR!

I took the kids to school this morning and my feet were freezing until the heater in the truck finally kicked in. Must have been down in the low to mid 40's.
Note to self, don't wear sandels in the morning without checking the weather report.

Charles - how does turning the solar system on protect it? And what type is it - pool/water heater, or photovoltaic. I guess if it's full of water I can see that.

Aww heck. A friend of mine used to have to scrape more frost than that off his wife's a$$ most mornings! (Pre-divorce, that is.)

Now you have something to tell your grandkids.

Turning on a solar panel system creates circulation, and prevents freezing. If you let it sit it could freeze and burst the pipes.

The worst part of this record cold front is the wind. It's slightly breezy out there, with gusts up to 5 mph.
It's still colder that a well digger's lunch box but it's warmed up to about 52 degrees. I'm stayin in the house all day. I wonder if my fireplace actually works or if it's just for decoration?

Solar system? we need to turn on our solar system? That must be on he11 of a switch...

Wait... DON'T TURN IT OFF, WE'LL ALL FREEZE TO DEATH!!!

So if you turn off the solar system do the planet all just stop where they are or do they go flying off into space?

sammyg hit it on the head. 2 kinds of systems. passive(what i have) active w/thermostsats. do not buy active system...........PITA and freeze prone if thermostat fails.ask me how i know. switched to passive system and now its idiot/weather proof. great tax credit. just dont fib(lie) on cost to IRS they are checking anyone here in az. that has taken state tax credit. ask me how i know??? just had to send invoice to az.state tax man to verify how much i spent.

very well worth it. in summers i turn 30amp breaker off for water heater for good energy savings. winter- 160 gallon hot showers w/girlfriend............YES!
