Great night for the furnace to fail...
It's 40F forecast 28F - record cold.
Furnace won't ignite. It has the heater equivalent of an OBDI error code: 14 = Failure to ignite. Brrrr. Good thing I've got plenty of wine...

Does it light and go off?
If so steel wool off that flame detector. No flame? Does the ignitor glow? |

My wife says its about 30 degrees outside of our house north of Los Angeles. Its about 75 and partly cloudy here in Auckland after four days of rain

I pulled the hot surface ignitor - the silicon carbide element has a crack clean through.
Now to find one on Sunday...

Michael,
What do you have for heat on the boat? Gas heater? Sea temp would help but still would be chilly...

My heating system stopped working last night, been flakey for awhile but now it won't turn on at all.
House was 53F this morning, unpleasantly chilly. 36F outside, around 25-28F at night. Have a little electric heater plugged into the living room outlet, trying to heat all 3300 sq ft of house - and faiing. Furnace repair guy on his way. I went down to look at the furnace but couldn't make heads or tails of it, and considering it handles gas and electricity and runs unattended in the basement, decided not a suitable topic for DIY experimentation.

Try the thermocouple. Most hardware stores sell them in different lengths. The always fail after a few years and are simple to replace.
